$139 Delivered - Jobsworth - Bike Work Stand and Basic Toolkit (Was £159) @ Planet X

70

I have been in the market for a reasonably priced bike work stand and basic home mechanic kit and just purchased this 'bundle' from PlanetX bike. Thought it seems a good price.

was 159 pounds now 89 pounds - it gets cheaper once VAT is removed. Delivery is included. It just came up as $139 on my CC.

I hope it might be use to OzBargainers out there who are too cheap to pay for petrol and/or public transport ;-). Cheers.

EDIT - sorry direct link is; http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/ZXJOBWORTH/jobsworth-home-mecha…

  • I purchased a 4 legged bikestand from Aldi several years ago for $40 and recall they offered a similar tookit for $30. Unsure if they will be offered again and as they only have the bike specials around 2-3 times annually, might be a few months wait before next one as they had one only weeks ago (and don't recall seeing any of these two items). Stand is similar to one going around ebay:

I'm extremely happy with the quality of the stand. The toolkit is another matter - quality of tools will be good for occasional use.

Probably better deals out there if not particular about the type of stand and brand of tools.

    • I have the same Aldi stand and although the build is pretty solid, the clamp positioning mechanism is pretty awful - it won't hold its position and will rotate no matter how tightly you turn the screw. I have read online that the solution is to drill a hole and stick a pin in place to lock in the position. Haven't tried it myself as I couldn't decide what permanent position I want the clamp to be and concerned that drilling holes will weaken the structure considerably.

You only save £5 from buying the items separately vs the combination.

The tool kit imo is pretty useless and the rest of the items are either really useless or bike specific.

You can get cheaper equivalent stands on ebay.

  • I've got the same stand (with a different sticker). I think I got it from T7 or Cell for about A$80.

That was a good price at the time… I haven't looked lately, but it's reasonable to expect they can be had for the same or a little bit more.

Looking at the price of the two parts of this bundle…

The stand's price is… meh… okay, but not remarkable.

The tools are reasonably pricey compared to other cheap kits. That could mean they're better than average tools, or it could just mean that they're pricey :-P
