10.1" laptop running Windows

I'm in the market for a 10.1" laptop running windows. Do they still make these or have they all been replaced by tablets?

My current Toshiba NB305 netbook has served me very well for the last 4 years but it's getting to the end of its life and I need a replacement. It doesn't have to be high speced - just needs to run Microsoft Office and web browsing.

Suggestions anyone?

    Sounds like basic needs.

What about Surface RT? With a battery life of 8 hours and with Office 2013 preinstalled (free), it's pretty hard to pass up. And on ebay there are a lot of people selling the device with touch or type covers.

Not much choice. It seems 11.6 inches is a far more popular size these days.

    • Wow is that cheap. Is there any disadvantage in purchasing an overseas laptop, besides warranty claims? Especially, are there any hardware compatibility issues?

None that I can think of. I'm typing this from a machine sourced from the USA.

You will need a $1 travel adaptor to plug the thing into an Australian power socket, but these can be had easily on ebay or your favourite China shop. Some travel adaptors can be a loose fit but that's easily fixed with a bit of tape :)

Everything else is the same as you'd get in Australia. Laptop power supplies are designed to work on worldwide voltages, so no concerns there.

I can't remember the last time I had to send something back under warranty so warranty is of no concern to me. Just keep in mind our dollar is weaker, so in AUD the cost will be higher. Some laptops are worth getting imported while others come close to local pricing. But generally there's much more choice overseas.

        Anyway, happy hunting :)

  • From my personal experiences, a 11 inch screen is much better to be used with win8 than the 10 inch if the screen resolution is 1366x768. If the screen resolution is lower, then it may be better on 10 inch.
