  I bought this the last time it was on sale from PoK (similar price) and it is a great casual watch. One thing to note is that the glass scraped quite easily on mine after a slight bang whilst on the push-bike! This was my fault, but I expected a little bit more in terms of wear and tear

    Not really your fault. The crystal on this model is noticeably raised above the case of the watch. I have two TW Steel Canteens in 50mm - I chipped the crystal on one of them the very day I got it! This is probably the only unfortunate thing about these though - I really like them. They obviously take their styling cues from U-Boat, a company that produces MUCH more expensive russian style canteen dive watches. Love the watches - just try not to bang them on anything! I bought mine from PoK also. Definitely the best price I have found for them.

      this is common on cheaper watches with mineral glass

      i havent seen sapphire glass used except for much higher end watches (think $2k+)

        The G-Shock GW-1100 series (http://www.gshock.com/resource/img/products/watches/xlarge/G…) have Sapphire glass and they retail for $500-900 depending on the model. But they mostly have regular resin straps, hence the lower costs compared to Tag Heuers or Breitlings with Sapphire glass.

        There are hundreds of budget watches you can get with sapphire glass even under $200. Citizen and Seiko make some decent ones too. Here's a search on creation watches with sapphire as keyword:

        Keep in mind that whilst sapphire can't be scratched under general usage (unless with a harder substance such as tungsten or diamond) it is more brittle. This means that dropping the watch on a hard surface could shatter the glass, not just chip it as what generally happens with mineral glass. Sapphire is also more expensive to replace and harder to clean out of dials and movements of watches once shattered.

        That being said, after owning a watch with sapphire glass it's hard to go back to mineral glass. Just understand the negatives of sapphire crystal, take care not to drop it or hit it onto anything hard and you'll be alright.
