Not too sure mate. Maybe someone could shed some light? It's available online.
Available now but it seems to be NSW only, once you login or change location it changes back to $2.48, unless you enter NSW postcode. I tried adding it to checkout at $1 and then going to pay as a test, but once I added my SA address it changed it to $2.48.
My rabbit's ears perked up on receiving this news. :)
If you ask one of the fresh produce team members they will more than likely give you a box of the lettuce off cuts for free. Thats what we do at the store I work at at least. Nothing wrong with the off cuts and would be perfect for rabbits
Coles stores aren't supposed to do this anymore — ask your DM or store manager!
99% of the customers who ask for off cuts will use it for their rabbit, but there's always the select few who could use it for their own consumption and Coles could be liable if they end up sick.
I just work there. My dm and store manager have asked me to get lettuce off cuts for customers before (actually happened yesterday).just doing what im told.
tryonthis is right,
we aren't supposed to give them lettuce offcuts in the event it causes harm, i.e we kill the rabbit.
then we get into the whole issue of fault and not actually selling them the product in the first place(given that lettuce leaves like that are not usually 'sellable')
that said the loophole around that is there is nothing stopping them from taking it directly from the display…
The first taste is always free.
Lettuce for rabbits is actually not a good idea. Especially iceberg. In large quantities it can be very bad for them.
so can alcohol
Unless you are going to make lapin au vin. :)
DO NOT FEED ICEBERG LETTUCE!!!! Iceburg lettuce should not be fed to rabbits for two reasons. First, it contains almost no nutrients, and secondly because it can cause digestional upset because it is too watery. Instead, feed dark leafy lettuces like romain lettuce. Those have less water content and are packed full of great nutrients. Please make sure ALL lettuce and vegetables are properly washed,to clear any pesticides!!

Relax, I'm not actually a rabbit, even if this is the Internet. :)
Better to safe than sorry.
OKAY!!!! IF EVER GET A RABBIT I WON'T BUT I DOUBT IT HURTS THEM OCCASIONALLY AND PROBABLY MAKES FOR A CHANGE!!!! I DON'T THINK THEY MAKE VERY GOOD PETS ANYWAY!!!!
Good god man.. calm down!!!
The only green leafy veg I feed my beautiful bunnies is kale. $2 bunch from my local fruit shop, lasts over a week for two hungry rabbits (along with other veg of course).
Kale ftw!
and +1 for your warning to rabbit owners who might be feeding iceberg lettuce :)
No good for guinea pigs either for the same reasons - no nutrition, too much water. My daughter's piggies bloated up like footballs when the neighbour fed them nothing but iceberg for a week when we were away. Their cage wasn't pretty either :(
Sounds logical - although I don't think Yahoo answers stacks up as a reliable academic source.
It depends on the person answering the question.

There are many more reliable sources, all with the same information - iceberg = bad. Other lettuce = fine.

Iceberg gives rabbits diarrhea
Fruit and Veg specials do not start with the rest of the store on a wednesday.
they typically start on a Friday - Thursday cycle, occasionally having a 2nd cycle starting on saturday just for the weekend(typically only over long weekends, special weekends (easter/anzac etc) or to price match the competition.
Edit: they are also rarely nationwide, if they are, they are not at the same time, due to the nature of fresh produce logistics.
however the specials do tend to 'travel' around so whilst NSW may get $1 lettuce this week, VIC may get it the fortnight after. the only ones that tend to exist nationwide are big ticket items that are produced at a central location i.e bananas; or imported fruit as logistically the trip around australia is the short part of the trip.
Source: I work in said department.Yeah same here. The 'super specials' run from friday to thurs with other specials on other days
Say my name…
These are available right now! Just bought 5 for $5 (NSW). Yum!
Thanks OP.
Typical Heisenberg offering us your ice-berg.
Skyler likes them icy. So I'm assuming everyone else does.
I want those lettuce that has the roots attached so I can plant them at home after taking the leaves out!
I have quite a collection now and wont need to buy lettuce after 4 months :DThat's such an OzBargainer thing to do lol.
Wnere are they made from?
Mummy & daddy lettuce kissed and their love spilled over and made a baby lettuce. Now if you want to know any more than that, go ask your father!
Thanks OP! I go through up to 4 iceberg lettuces each week.
Newly developed snack obsession… few leaves of lettuce, smear on a bit of tasty dip, roll it up and stuff into mouth. oooh yeah. Refreshing savoury snack on hot days!
Any tips on choosing a particular one? I tend to go for the smaller, cleaner, tighter ones, but have found that when I get them home that it's difficult to peel off a single leaf. Am I choosing badly, or is that just life? ;)
If you want the most lettuce for your money (since they charge per head of lettuce not by weight, usually), then you'd go for the heavier ones which are generally the tighter ones which can be a bit hard to peel leaves from.
The looser type are easier to peel (I've found the leaves to be more wrinkly and greener, too) but you get significantly less lettuce :P So it's up to you. The tighter, heavier ones can be a bit blander sometimes… but also juicier. Looser leaf lettuce heads can be drier, but prettier (bright green).
I'm certainly no expert though! lol these are just passing observations I've made in all my iceberg buying. I go through heaps a week, though, so I prefer the heavier/tighter ones and just deal with the fact that leaves tear off in shreds when I'm trying to peel a single leaf off nicely.
You could always cut the whole head in half then peel leaves from each half as needed..?
Always love a small, tight, clean one.
Sometimes I've gone for some nice ones that look really green on the outside, but as soon as I cut it open it's white watery leaves inside. I guess the green was just the tip of the iceberg lettuce.
Lettuce in on the joke.
Paper if cheaper and has same nutritional content
Coles definately ain't fresh. If you want fresh, go to your local green grocer.
or grow in your backyard. Growing lettuce is real easy. Just plant the roots of the lettuce you buy from the grocers. 2 months on you can start picking from them.
Remember to setup a irrigation system with timer and never worry about watering either. You will get your money back in a year and will be able to eat the freshest of lettuce without wasting half of it everytime you buy from the stores. Will be organic too.
We need to cook…
Now is not the time Jesse!
I bought it too.
This is cheap. Thanks OP. Picked 2 up yesterday (as well as the grape offer).
I thought this started today, but they're full price.
Disappointed.
Starts Wednesday? or now…
