Royal Brunei Flights Melbourne-London Return Fr $1299 or One-Way Fr $749

330

Managed to book a flight from Melbourne-London one way for $749 in October (even though the dates are different to what is on the site. Had to do this by using skyscanner.net first then clicking through to STA from there. Looks like it worked for both Sept and Oct. I had to use the Internet Explorer browser cause Chrome didn't get me this price.

Great deal if you plan on travelling into London but exiting from a different city.

According to the STA website these prices a valid for the following travel dates:
Fr $1299 Return
Travel: 30/09/2014-21/11/2014

Fr $749 One-Way
Travel: 14/01/2014-12/06/2014

Royal Brunei allows a whopping 35kg checked luggage! Only downside is that it looks like it may only be one bag?

Must book by 28/02/2014

  • That's alright… 35kgs! they must've changed it as it was only 20kgs when we went in May 2013..

Fish & chips will do that to you

  • Used to fly with Brunei when son small; they have a very high threshold for Child, something like 16?
But the downside is they dont provide wine onboard, regardless of the class. Not sure if this has changed.
The good point is they pray before they fly :-)

    • This is actually very good information. The child age used to be 18 which meant it was really good if you were taking a couple of 12-18 yr old kids as they would only pay 75% of the adult fare. Unfortunately, they have now capped it at 12 years old in line with most other airlines.

      • Do you have to book directly with Brunei airlines for this "child" fair or can you use statravel.com.au ?

        • You can use any travel agent but as I mentioned above they have now changed the child ticket age limit back to 12 so it's not as good as it once was.

        • Thanks, just booked through statravel. Have also checked directly on the Brunei airlines website and the price quoted was much, much higher than the one from the agent website. I do not think the <12yo kids mattered in my case though since the price I got quoted on the statravel website (could only tick the youth option) was lower than what I actually ended up paying over the phone with them when I gave them the actual DOBs.

No booze either :) They country itself is dry.

    • Just step across the border to friendly old Malaysia, the free port of labuan will take care of all your libation needs!

  • Theyre not a bad airline. Flew with them Syd - Brunei and it was a good flight. Yes they pray before takeoff, and no alcohol is allowed on board because they're the flag carrier of a strict muslim county.

  • Has to be more than one bag.
Baggage handlers will not touch anything that's over 32kg.

    Edit:
Where did you get 35kg from? Just checked their website and it lists as 20kg for economy and 30kg for business.

    • Went to student flights and got them to price beat (by $1) and it says on the itinerary. Also says one bag only but the travel agent wasn't sure if the one bag thing was an error?

  • Slight OT, does anyone know if there's any cheap tickets coming back from London to Melbourne in Oct?

  • Flew with them from Kota Kinabalu to Singapore a 1 hour flight, paid 120Ringit and got water and juice when i boarded, 20 minutes into the flight and i was served a full main meal of fish with rice + drinks + Cake + fruit. More than i could even eat.

BEST service of any carrier i have been with, Highly recommended !

    • Agreed, very friendly to kids and we were well looked after on the flights.

Only downside was food poisoning from a roll served on the way back to Sydney during the night - but it can happen anywhere…

  • My understanding is you can bring alcohol on board and they will serve it to you. I found a business MEL DXB return last year for 2500 which was a steal! Can recommend.

      Do they charge for corkage?

  • Can't take more than 100 mls of any liquid on board with you on international flights, not even water.
Dreamliner 787 is now on Brunei to London route. Very spacious , modern and supposed to lessen jet lag due to lower level of pressurisation and interior colour effects. larger windows.
I noticed that travel.com.au have cheaper prices than Royal Brunei global site which often has cheaper tickets than the Australian site.

…and my sister got tummy upset from QF lounge in Melbourne a fortnight ago. chicken.Still trying to get response from them.

enjoy the service on RB but found beef and buttered rice a little tough on my last flight.

  • What's the best Sydney to London (or anywhere in Europe) deal?

  • Ok airline if the layover is under 4 hours, I had a few overnight stays in Brunei. The hotel is average and nothing to do at the airport hotel. Plus I wasnt told I had to get a visa (even though I asked), one can be bought on arrival but I only had AUD so bad exchange rate and had all this change left over.
