Check smart traveller (the govt website) and see what vaccines.

Definite one you need to get is yellow fever cos they won't let you back into the country if you come straight back into aus from one of the yellow fever countries… Unless you spend 6 days in an area that's yellow fever free eg USA. (Takes up to 6 days for yellow fever symptoms to show up). I went to Brazil no new vaccinations (already have tetanus and hep from prev vacations) but had to postpone my arrival into aus by spending 6 days in Canada first as I didn't have yellow fever shots. Only certain aeas of Brazil require yellow fever shots and you need a certificate to say you got it to enter countries that are YF free ie to enter australia.

  • They will let you back in if you haven't had yellow fever vaccination. Quarantine will just give you some information on symptoms to look out for.

  • Typhoid vaccine and maybe Anta virus and hep A just in case. Check with your Gp for the necessary vaccines that u will need for the countries u are visiting in South America. I hope u have a great trip and try not to carry too many valuables with you when you go out.

  • Go to your GP. There are standard lists of necessary and optional vaccinations. If it is a decent sized medical center they can give the shots there and then.

Dont go to a travel doctor as they simply overcharge and try to load you up on all the unnecessary and expensive ones.

  • Our GP sent us to Travel Clinics Australia Didn't seem to cost that much as got refunds from Medicare and Private Health Fund. As they specialize in overseas travel, they have the knowledge and the right vaccinations. Also kept to appointment time.
