Will Bunnings take something back without receipt?

I was behind someone at the returns counter at Masters and they where returning something without a receipt. Masters somehow looked it up with the credit card the guy bought it with, will Bunnings do the same? Thanks

  • yes, its on their website.
    returning goods without receipt.

    • Thanks, I'll give it a go. The item I want to return is faulty, it doesn't really say if you can return without a receipt if its faulty but Ill try.

ACL says you CAN return it without a receipt if it's faulty, if you have proof of purchase.

When we had to return something to Bunnings we took a print out of the scan we'd taken of the receipt, and were told that 'next time' we needed to have the physical receipt itself also, even if it had faded to blank. I've since found out they can't actually insist on any receipt at all, provided you can prove you made the purchase.

I complained to Bunnings management about the same scenario. The response I got back from the "Complex Manager" was quite clear:

The policy does not state whether you can use an electronic copy of the receipt (photo, application, etc.) however an electronic copy of a receipt is an acceptable for of proof of purchase.

I assume the refund/exchange was not processed? If this is the case, please come back to the store with your electronic proof of purchase and mention my name. I will sort it out.

Clearly, I have to train our team to accept electronic receipts, as I am sure this will become a more common method of transacting a refund/exchange.

Please don’t hesitate to give me a call if you have any further queries.

So a good response, but yes it does point to a more widespread staff training issue.

        • I got the same b*** from this stupid b**** at Epping VIC

if you paid using credit card or eftpos and you knew the date of purchase they could possibly find and reprint the receipt.

faulty returns without a receipt might be problematic, especially for determining the warranty period.

    • They did this for me- searched my CC and found it.

Yes they will refund. They'll also ask for photo id.

  • Yes, you may be offered a credit note though.

Yes no problem, I have just come back from returning an item with no receipt, I was given a store credit/voucher

  • Legally all of them need to accept no receipt as long as you have some proof of purchase and date of purchase.

  • Handy info: JB Hi-Fi looked up and reprinted my receipt using proof of my bank statement. They searched and re-printed the receipt onto A4.

  • I took a pair of broken secateurs back without a receipt (they were pretty expensive and listed as "lifetime warranty" which is why I bought them initially - I actually had to argue pretty hard to get an exchange, the claim was that I could not prove I had bought them at Bunnings, I expected this would happen but given they were $100+ I thought it was worth a try since they genuinely failed after a few uses(flaw in metal which could be seen in break point). I had to get a bit agro, after speaking to about 3 different staff members they exchanged them.

    • were they the fiskars ones? I saw 10,000 different type of those things, I don't believe they're worth more than $30. I got a extended handle branch lopper with gears instead.
