I don't understand… So you purchased it for $10 more at JB Hifi?

    • might have been in a hurry, do estore post it? $99 on ING card would get within $5

    • I don't get it either. E-Store appear to charge $9.80 for shipping, so even if you include shipping vs pickup at JB it's still cheaper at E-Store. Paying more after price match is not a bargain.

  • I don't understand… So you paid an extra $128 for Media Centre?

  • What / where is the cheapest option to buy a full copy of Windows 8.1 for a new PC build?

Windows 8.1 OEM is $129 and Windows 8.1 Pro is $179…

  • Will it upgrade a windows 8 to 8.1 pro?

    • Yes

  • I'm thinking this seems cheap, http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/software/microsoft/window…

I have a couple of old laptops with OEM XP/VIsta licenses. Sounds like it will work to install Pro onto my desktop (I assume Win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 Pro is a free upgrade). Clean install sounds like a hassle though.

After using Windows 8.1 for a year, I have decided it is too much a headache with no benefit for me. I have reinstall Windows 7.

    • I take it you mean Windows 8 ?

8.1 was released in October 2013.

I have use vs 8 and upgraded it to 8.1 when it came out. There is some improvement but not enough benefit for me. I felt windows 8 is more suitable for touch screen tablet such as the Microsoft surface pro but it had failed on the desktop system.

You can still find windows 8.0 pro upgrade for less than that..

    • where from?

      • Officeworks still had quite a few of the 'upgrade' copies from memory, which you can easily trick into doing a clean install.

  • i sold mine for $30 … should have wait :(

  • Anyone know will I need to reinstall everything or just need to type in the code to upgrade?

Not a reason to neg but..this is a an utter waste for 90% of users. The functions added with Pro are just so niche and this isn't event the cheapest.

  • Definitely not the best deal.

  • ahhh i remember buying Windows 8 Pro x64 for $15… and getting media center for free ;) then free upgrade to 8.1 which everyone that owns 8 gets..

but seriously.. buy the upgrade kit for 8 for half that price download the 8.1 ISO edit or make a ei.cfg.. (check the MDL forums for information on both)..

with the Ei.cfg in place you dont need a serial number to get Windows installed (infact Win 8 has an unlimited trial period only lacking some personalization features btw)..

it will ask for a serial a second time just before putting you into the system.. you can put your legit upgrade key in at that point and it registers fine..

if you want to be a cheap ass search for AutoKMS… but seriously i laugh every time i see someone paying more then $15 for the OS.. it was available at that price for almost a year..
