Flyscoot flight cancelled. Fraud?

Hello Everyone,

Today I received a call from flyscoot staff telling me that my flight in March has been cancelled.

Options that I have is

  1. Travel before a day.
  2. Travel on any day within 7 days of actual travel date
  3. Receive a travel voucher for flyscoot airlines only after 8 weeks from now for the money paid

There cancelled the flight and not willing to refund money.

They told me, that is their condition and I've accepted it.

Has anyone had this situation before?
This is cheating I guess.
Buying another ticket is like a different product.
Buying fish and getting chicken :(

Any suggestions?

  • fraud: 1. wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

    1. There is no fraud here.
    2. You have accepted their T&Cs by buying their tickets. All these budget airlines cant guarantee to fly you even if you have purchased the flight tickets. Its somewhere in their T&Cs.
    • what do you mean by "All these budget airlines"? do you know another airlines that does the same ??

      • jetstar, air asia, tiger, etc.

they operate in similar manners. They will cancel flights to avoid losses.

However, You are entitled to a refund. Demand it if thats what you are after.

        • just read tiger T&C and found out that they refund if they cancel their flight and you don't like their alternative flights.

Yes I'm after refund from FlyScoot. That is what they are not giving. They say they have different T&C.

9.4 – DELAYED / CANCELLED FLIGHTS (UNCONTROLLABLE CIRCUMSTANCES)
If your flight is cancelled due to an uncontrollable circumstance, we will try to put you on the
next available Scoot flight between the same origin and destination within 48 hours of the
cancelled flight, at no additional cost. If we are unable to provide you with a flight within 48
hours of the cancellation of your flight, or if you postpone your travel, we will offer you a
travel voucher equivalent to your itinerary value, excluding any amounts for third party
products and services, valid for six (6) months from the date of issue. For countries where
refunds are mandatory, we will offer you a refund equivalent to the value of your itinerary,
excluding any amounts for third party products and services.

Do u mean Refund is mandatory in Australia?

        • I rkn you can push for a refund. but that's just what I rkn LOL

        • I'll give it my best try. Let's see.

        • No, I think he's pointing out the "they will offer you a refund equivalent," which would be the travel voucher.

        • Lol a voucher would not be a refund equivalent

Somehow I doubt canceling a march flight in February is uncontrollable.

          I would expect a refund

        • You have rights under Australian Consumer Law

You haven't received any goods or services, and as a result you should be able to easily push for a refund. You didn't buy a scoot voucher with an 8 week delivery time, you bought what you expected to be a flight on a certain date and they were unable to provide you with this service. Give them the good old "I know my rights under Australian Consumer Law" mumbo jumbo and it should be relatively easy. Generally you are protected from being screwed over by companies like this. From my understanding, you do not have to accept a store credit in place of a refund.

It's not like an automated system physically cost them anything to have you booked…

          http://www.consumerlaw.gov.au/content/Content.aspx?doc=home.…

No terms and conditions can overrule any refund you are entitled to under ACL. Persist and you will be able to get a refund. Demand it. Don't settle for less - that's where people fail.

        • To add to what I just said, I did some more research and it looks like the airline industry has some pretty poor service when it comes to refunds and that sort of thing. It may be harder than I thought to get a refund, but if you kick up enough fuss they might give in. Good luck.

Pretty poor practice if you ask me, unfortunately I couldn't find any specific reference to flight cancellations or anything in the Australian Consumer Law documentation websites.

I had the same issue with them a few years back, the alternative was that I just took the flight the day before, and then my other bookings were not affected. This added cost as I had to take another day in Singapore.

I wasnt impressed nor am I still, however there isnt any other way. Some on Whirlpool said they got compensation from Scoot, I found no such offer after asking a number of times.

Their call centre Australian number wouldn't even go thru, luckily I have a voip service where Singapore calls are free, so I called there.

I have flown with them again, but that was with a $60 all inclusive fare from Singapore to Sydney. Given my experience and your's when things go wrong, you have very little recourse.

Complaining to Scoot is a waste of time, the only thing I can do is avoid the parent airline Singapore in my own perverse protest, if I have a choice of airlines which includes Singapore air, which isnt highly likely.

You have to move on and enjoy your trip.

travel insurance before you leave the country is handy for circumstances like this.

  • book using CC as much as possible, they have the travel insurance.
You have no other option (because T&C) and i do think that the options that flyscoot has given are reasonable.

    • Sad part is fly scoot said they can't send me any email saying that their flight is cancelled. They only sent me a new itinerary of their choice. I've no proof that their flight is cancelled. I think I've CC insurance. Need to check with them.

I think you will find that this can be a blind alley.

Many travel insurance clauses, are like this from TID

We will not pay a claim that arises because of any of the following:
        Delays, rescheduling or cancellation
of scheduled transport services caused by the carrier or related to the carrier, including maintenance, repairs, rescheduling, service faults or industrial activity other than a strike or corporate takeover. This exclusion does not apply to Section 6: Travel delay (page 13) and Section 9: Special events (page 14).

(section 6 is for those with a multitrip policy and Section 9 if you are traveling to a special event like a wedding)

In a nutshell, if the carrier cancels you get nothing.

There are very few policies that allow refunds for carrier delays/cancels

        • That is really useful. This means Travel Insurance is not really necessary if you have medical insurance in destination country as well.

  • I only fly Qantas. Yes, more expensive but not much and they never screw me around.

i only fly the cheapest airlines and they never screw me around.

I've been on a $750 flight to Melbourne on Qantas and they still cancelled my flight. Though they did put me on the next flight which was 2 hrs later, still bullshit.

My point is Qantas can still screw you around. All airlines do this, just some more than others.

    • They DO screw you with their fares

  • hmm it's a budget airline so i'm sure they have stated no refund in their terms and conditions(ofc they dont expect you to read it).

    • However it is illegal for a business to simply stick a "no refund" sign up in their shop under Australian Consumer Law.. I don't see how chucking it in "terms and conditions" is any different, as one could easily argue that putting a sign up is the same as creating a condition of sale.

Maybe you can contact your credit card company and have the transaction reversed, because the merchant refuses to give you the related goods or services. Regarding performance of other discount carriers: I have received refunds from AirAsia, Tiger, and Cebu Pacific due to flight cancellations. AirAsia took about 4 months. The others were very quick.

  • Had a bad experience with scoot recently on my recent trip. Thing is with these budget airlines there's is not much u can do really. You get what you pay. But I will certainly avoid them in the future as my own form of protest.
