Probably Refurbished one the mac site is my recommendation.

    • Yes, and if you go for refurbished, double check you are getting the current model. It has much better battery life, SSD speed and graphics performance.

anywhere but the Apple store lol. traditionally they are the dearest. best wait for DSE or JB Hifi to have their 10% off sale. they have them quite a bit these days.

  • Thanks guys, I though someone would know a discount code or something. Is it a good idea to claim GST back via airport?

    • If you are planning to claim GST back via airport, you might want to buy it through student pricing or ask discount to JB/Harvey/even Apple Store

    • if claiming GST be wary of this clause
      http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4352.asp

      Tourist Refund Scheme
If you return to Australia with goods for which you have claimed a GST refund under the TRS on departure, you must declare those goods at Question 3 on the Incoming Passenger Card (IPC) if their value exceeds the passenger concession of A$900. GST refunds received on goods exceeding the passenger concession will have to be repaid if the items are brought into Australia.

      • if their value exceeds the passenger concession of A$900

As soon as buy it, it's value decreases because it's 2nd hand…

        • i didnt choose the wording
its straight off the customs website

though i would like to see you argue this point with the customs officer
          =)

  • try gumtree or ebay. buying second hand is the secret to all bargains. save a ridiculous amount of money - I usually buy an apple laptop 2nd hand that is 1 year old every year and I get it for half the price it would be selling for brand new. Then 1 year on, I can sell it for 100$ less than I purchased it for and everyone is happy . even without warranty it should be fine. apple builds good quality products. only reason it wouldn't be good is if the previous user didn't treat the laptop very well. even then - as i said before - apple builds good quality laptops and I have been abusing then for a few years now and haven't had a problem.

also MacBook Air is the best choice for most people imo. I have tried nearly every single apple laptop (all second hand) (including 15" retina) and for some reason, I have liked the 13" Air the best.

  • Dick smiths has 10% off deals now, i would go to jb and price match it or go to apple store to price match :)
