I went into my local BWS and found that the bottles of Smirnoff Black 700mL were on clearance for $23.50!!!

Called Doncaster BWS to confirm VIC stock and they said they had 5 bottles left and other local stores did also.

Seems the discount is a per-store thing, as they said it would be marked down more if it does not sell.
Yep. If it gets deleted (from the product range), a product will generally be marked down 10% every few weeks from the original price. So a $50 item would go down $5 every few weeks (on a thursday) until it gets low enough that everyone wants to buy it ;)
Some stores will manually mark it to around 40% if they absolutely have to clear a lot of stock, etc.
None at Bayswater, Kilsyth or Croydon, and Dan's had a large hole where it used to be with an 'out of stock' label instead of the price… Too late!!

No luck in QLD but only tried 1. She mentioned they changed from "black" to "double black". That's why these are being cleared.

This is a per-store thing as Smirnoff Black has been replaced by the new Double Black (at least in the BWS range).
At my store we reduced it down a few months ago, however as the stock is so limited and varying by store, it's not really something you can get everywhere. We sold out pretty quickly after putting the ticket up. Seeing as most stores wouldn't even have more than 12 usually to begin with (at any one time), you'll be lucky if you find it :)

Smirnoff needs to be this cheap. There are more than enough quality options for a decent price, to avoid purely-a-name.

vodka should have no taste. what you are tasting is the impurities in the shitty stuff.
