David Jones TV purchase mess

Hi Guys,

I paid for samsung f8500 64 inch for around $2150 (cash) with 2 years ext warranty from david jones on Jan 1st week. I paid for a product which was in stock. But later things turned out unexpected and here is what happened.

  • After a week, the sales person called me and said the product is end-of-line, they don't have any and they would either refund me or get it transferred from another DJ store.
  • After 2 days they called me and told they got it successfully transferred from another store and it would take a week to come.
  • I went to store after a week, then they are not able to find the product in transfer.
  • Again after a week, they rang me to say the product is end-of-line and they cannot offer me as they don't have it and they are ready to refund or they are ready to offer a display unit reduced at another $100. No word about what happened to promised transfer order. It disappeared magically.

No worries at all with what happened. Am getting a feeling that since I negotiated a good price, they did this to me or otherwise they totally messed up the ordering process.

Now could you please help me on what my options are.

  1. Should I take refund?
  2. Get display unit for better price?
  3. Should I complain about their ordering process of making me wait 4 weeks after taking my cash on an active product which they could not deliver?. I had to walk to store at least 5 times in between to know what was happening during this time.

Thank you for your comments in advance.

    Get the refund..
I doubt you'd have bought a secondhand TV for $100 less than you paid for a new one. The Demo is just that, a secondhand TV with unusually high hours of usage due to being turned on all day every day since the model was released (presumably at least 12 months ago since it's End of Life).

    Exactly as scubacoles has said.

It looks like they tried for you, but it didn't pan out.

    • Ok guys, thanks for your input. i will try to get refund mostly. Now thinking about getting quotes from other stores - either jb or dicksmith

i think 64" still a bit expensive now maybe it become sweet spot later this year.
for now, 55" or 60" is the best to buy.

  • I'd go with the refund.
If you're that paranoid that they're exacting some sort of vengeance upon you, you could try ringing random DJ stores to see if anyone has any in stock - but I can't imagine DJ's f-ing up that bad. I'm sure it is an honest mistake.

    was this the TV? http://www.kickstartcomputers.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=…

maybe they might take off $120 for cash?

  • I would take a refund.. You can get the tv price matched elsewhere?

Don't get the display, 10-12 hr on 7 days a week for 6-12 months.

Sometimes a transfer may be in place, but if the other end has the wrong stock count, it may have taken 2-3 days to rectify or notice..

    • Other stores dont have stock. And i dont think anyone will price match for above mentioned price i got from DJ. That is why i was waiting for few weeks to see if DJ can arrange one. Now, it looks like they cannot do anything other than $100 off as it is already below their cost price.
