All these recent alcohol deals are great way to stock up for the school year.

    • -3

I'm more likely to need them during school holidays !!!

Has anyone tasted Aldi's copy of baileys for $13? I think it's called O'Donnells or something. Is it any good?

  • dupe comment

    • +5

Never had that one, but I can't go back to Bailey's after Father O'Leary's.. Cheap and just as good! Used to be able to score it for $10 on special, hasn't been that low in a long time though.

      • +1

Thanks, I'll give this a try now that you've mentioned :)

      • -1

Interesting that Father O'Leary's is from same distillery as Baileys…

        • +1

Not sure where you're getting that info from, but Father O'Leary's is made De Bortoli, an AUS company. Pretty sure they don't make Bailey's!

    • +1

Yes, we drink that. My wife likes it with milk and ice and she can't tell the difference

    • +1

Yes, tastes great and much better value at $13 everyday price. I made the swap 2 years ago.

at 9 bucks a bottle for 700ml, im very curious too!

      • +1

Look at the TLD… Unless you're in America it'll be hard to get it for that price ;)

    • it's what you would expect for $13. Depends how fussy you are & how you take your Bailey's. If you mix it, go the ODonnells. I would spend the extra $'s for the Baileys.

      • When making Tiramisu - is ODonnell's okay?

    • It's good. Creamier than the watery (cheaper) Irish creams at Dan's. Personally I'd rank the Aldi one on par with this one from Dan's: http://danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_360707/o-mara-s-irish-co…

Both are probably the best copies of Baileys :)

    • Do not get the ALDI one if you drink it straight or on the rocks. Had it for more than a year and still haven't finished it

    • +1

I think you're right about the name… judging by the picture OP posted, lol.

    • I purchased a bottle of it last year, it was so yummy I went back and got 3 more bottles. It is very similar to Baileys, except it doesn't have that alcohol taste that Baileys has before the ice smoothes it out. Straight out of the bottle the O'Donnells is drinkable, with Baileys I have to let it sit for awhile. I don't think it is that similar to Father O'Learys. For the price I think it is a awesome buy.

    • Bah. On a mobile. Downvoted by accident. STILL not fixed OzB?!

I drank 2 bottles of baileys over the xmas/ny break in Ireland. Lurrrve the stuff, despite all the crap I cop. Pint glass, 50/50 milk/baileys. Winter after-dinner drink.

The Irish brother-in-law brought some of the Aldi stuff over. He's such a tightarse… and normally drinks gallons of beer. I've drank cheap copies before. Cheap crap.

It's not baileys, but it's not far off, and much cheaper! I'm happy to keep buying baileys, but will never turn my nose-up at the aldi stuff.

    • sure, I've slugged some down. Not as nice as Baileys, but not bad, drink more and it tastes better.

  • +5

Thanks, now I can drink plenty of Baileys from a shoe.

This is cheaper by 3.2% than dutyfree normal prices for baileys

    Usual prices from SydDutyFree
    $32 for 1L
    http://www.syddutyfree.com/category/liquor/11256-baileys-ori…

Current offer from Aldi: $21.70 for 700ml

    Aldi: $21.70/0.7L = $31/L
    SydDF: $32/L

and the price of an international flight to obtain duty free booze….

      • +2

and the price of an international flight to obtain duty free booze….

        That's the whole point!
Something is wrong with you people who are negging..
I'm saying the Aldi deal is better, you don't even need to buy an international flight and it's still cheaper than sydney duty-free.
Do you guys even read what others write? Or am I attaining JV status where you just neg regardless?

Other alcohol is a lot cheaper through SydDutyFree (greenfairy). For that, just ask around for people who fly a lot (It's CNY, holiday season.. ask some friends to help you out)

        • -7

Or am I attaining JV status where you just neg regardless?

and what's wrong with that ?

    • Standard deal: 2 for $49
The banners are everywhere, for many brands. They push hard for it.

No one's gonna pay $31 after pulling a bottle from the rack with that pasted all over it.

  • -1

Good price but the Liquorland deal a month ago was heaps better. I picked up 2 bottles for $11.52ea

  • It is marginally cheaper at Costco if you have membership. I think the standard price is 30.89 for 1L.

    • -1

It is marginally cheaper at Costco if you have membership.

Most Ozbargainers would have taken up the free Costco membership in December…

      • +1

No, because some people were sigining up multiple times (for the $60 credit on shopping) and it was a limited promo. Sorry.. still a bit sore I missed out on that one…

      • +1

        This ozbargainer missed that….damn!

  • Does anyone have a list of which states allow supermarkets to sell alcohol?

    • -1

It's not a question of whether the company is a supermarket or not, it's whether the company has applied for and received a state license to sell liquor. Aldi got their VIC license earlier than their NSW one.

      • Wrong… SA does not allow alcohol to be sold in supermarkets

        • -2

SA does not allow alcohol to be sold in supermarkets

But they allow it to be sold at petrol stations instead…

        • Negative.

    • From my experience, a number of Aldi's in ACT sold alcohol in-store. It may be all Aldis in ACT but I can't be too sure :P

Some Aldis in NSW also sell alcohol now. This only started fairly recently, compared to ACT. Probably in the last couple of years.

      on second thoughts…. https://www.aldi.com.au/en/groceries/liquor/ lol

Don't drink alcohol, be different, be cool.

    • Or drink alcohol and stay healthy…

Moderate alcohol consumption may provide some health benefits. It may:

      • Reduce your risk of developing heart disease
      • Reduce your risk of dying of a heart attack
      • Possibly reduce your risk of strokes, particularly ischemic strokes
      • Lower your risk of gallstones
      • Possibly reduce your risk of diabetes

      http://www.mayoclinic.org/alcohol/art-20044551

      • Alcohol is also classified as Group 1 carcinogen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IARC_Group_1_carcinogen…). I love alcohol though :P

        • +2

Alcohol is also classified as Group 1 carcinogen

So stop drinking it then and die of cardiovascular disease instead…

      • I don't mind people sinning, but it irk's when people make sinning out to be a virtue :) It is a similar story for "medicinal' marijuana.

The issue is complex though since a lot of "recreation" drugs branded as evil 'poisons' by anti-drugs campaigners actually have beneficial effects in the right circumstances and dosage levels eg narcotics (pain, anxiety), stimulants (ADHD, narcolepsy), ketamine & Angel's dust (dissociative anaethetics), etc. In comparison to recreation drugs (alcohol included) standard psychiatric drugs (antidepressants, antipsychotics) are useless, overhyped trash. What's the purpose of a psych drug if it doesn't make you feel better (and as we all know, anything that makes you feel better is addictive)?

Seriously, its Baileys. No one cool drinks Baileys
