    a review of this here:

  • Looks nice and useful.

Drats I wish this had GPS.

    • -3

They never work that good anyway. I would rather not have it.
I doubt you could use it as evidence to show you weren't speeding.

      • GPS on mine works just fine? Even if its out by, say, 10%… that's still plenty to show that excessive speed was not a factor in an accident.

All manner of demo clips of an iTronics ITB-100HD with GPS here (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNa2zxO0Hmv8PFrNSmxF_…) if you want to try and spot some flawed speed readings.

        • -1

That's exactly my point that even if it is out by 10% it's not working properly.
The video footage alone will show if speed was a factor in an accident, and if you are fined for speeding it's useless.

        • No GPS device can get you out of a speeding fine, as it is not calibrated by the government and endorsed. Therefore it is not admissible in courts, not to mention that it could have been tampered with to make it look like you were speeding.

        • Well drats. So there's no point in owning a top end GPS enabled car cam then, might as well buy a mid end one.

        • All you would need to do is get a calibration report after the incident… It's all evidence and it all helps.

        • -1

It's nothing to do with getting out of speeding fines, and everything to do with proving there was no 'excessive' speed. Even a GPS reading 10% out is going to prove you weren't doing 100kph down a back street quickly and effectively. It's also super handy for proving acceleration / deceleration where the actual speed is far less important than the differential in speed (ie: was I accelerating or braking, when did I start braking, when did I react, etc).

If you don't need or want GPS than that's cool. But they do work just fine at this price point and I personally don't see enough of an improvement in video quality to sacrifice the GPS capability.

    • DR500 have GPS function, but it only report the route you travel, it is not a full functional GPS device

      • Sorry but what does this mean?

Why would you need to report any other route than the one you traveled?

        • sorry, was a typo, should be 'it only RECORD the route you travel'

  • great idea, the front/rear combo camera even better but $$$
    http://dashcamsaustralia.com.au/shop/dual-camera/blackvue-dr…

I wonder if possible to power these with a portable Li-Polymer battery when car is parked rather than running it direct to battery? (e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/118375 instead of http://dashcamsaustralia.com.au/shop/dual-camera/blackguard-…)

there is a code for the front/rear combo one, but i dont think the video quality is good, so i didnt post it here.

    • $445……crazy!

      • $222 per BlackVue camera isn't too bad isn't it?

  • Is there a deal for WF1 + 32gb bundle?

  • After having three el-cheapo dash cams fail to record important incidents due to them overheating/crashing/corrupting the memory cards at random intervals, I'm considering spending some serious money on a good one. Thanks for posting this, I'll look into the reviews.

    • there are lots of non bias reviews and youtube videos. personally i bought the WF1, better video quality day and night, higher bit rate make the video smooth and nice.

  • Camera has issues with the memory card you get from them. I haven't been able to successfully go one day without a memory card error (we bought two recently from them at full price…) on either. I've since changed to a sandisk extreme which has been working flawlessly. Just be warned.

edit: newer model with front\back camera is being released as well…

    • "newer model with front\back camera is being released as well…"

      reference link please?

  • BlackVue or VicoVation?
The wifi feature looks handy. It's sometimes a bit of a hassle getting the card out and plugging it into my phone to copy or preview videos.

My DOD GS600 keeps killing or corrupting my memory cards so I'm considering replacing it with something else.

    • I was going to get the BlackVue DR500GW but after watching reviews for it and the VicoVation WF1 I'm a bit undecided. Anyone had any bad experiences with either? One thing I see crop up regularily for the DR500GW is the pixelation issue around trees/lots of stuff.

  • GPS can work against you too if you had been speeding prior even if that had nothing to do with the accident. Personally if you're going to leave your dashcam in the car (and I can't see myself taking it in and out of the car everyday), I'd rather buy a cheapish $100 cam than tempt thieves with one this expensive.

The SJ1000 and the mobius are both highly recommended and reviews are plenty. Quality is excellent and less of a target. $300 for smashed side window and stolen $300 dashcam seems hardly worth it imo.

  • Do these continue to record when your car is parked?

No mention of this in the sale ad and some reviews I've read.

    • Currently it doesn't support parking mode. I read it's possible with a firmware upgrade which might be next.

  • Is the checkout working for anyone? After I choose the "free shipping" option, it just goes into a loading loop and doesn't do anything. =/

    • What's the free postage option? Same as the $10 offer just for free or is it just standard postage vs registered post?

  • +1

I think you can get hd dash cameras from aliexpress for less than $50, right??

    • you could also buy mobile phones for less than $50 on ali express, i don't suppose you trust them do you?

  • If the prices are $50 off the sale price, are you either inflating the original prices or selling at a loss

then the next question if you are selling at a loss - are you unloading stock because there are new models expecting to supersede??

    This seems suss…

    • There's the VicoVation Marcus-3 that's coming out this month (1296p30 or 1080p60, LCD) but I don't think it's meant to replace the compact wifi screenless WF1.

It's US$235 (on sale, normally $265) on Amazon so AUD$278 is a pretty good price. I might end up getting one myself.

Theft of car GPS units used to be more rampant when they were really expensive. I wonder if dash cams will be the next target.

  • What happened to the deal? I thought it was for 10 days, and the deal was posted on the 2nd. I tried ordering yesterday but the coupon had expired.

    • I emailed the seller and he'll re-enable the coupon code till 11pm tonight.

  • I bought a WF1 on Sunday using this code. I was told by the seller that 3-5 days after close of offer, they will send them out. They needed to confirm the number of units.

  • Mine arrived today. Came with a 16GB Samsung Class 10 microsd card too. Good deal!
