Turtle Beach XP500 Wireless Gaming Headset down to $199 @ EB Games (in-Store Only)

30

Due to the XP510's coming out, EB are selling the normally $328 XP500 wireless headset for only $199 - I got pair, advertised online but not advertised in the stores where they still say $328.
The stores honour it though.

JB hifi refused to come close $265 was the best I was offered in the city.

I've tried them out for ~1 hour now, and they're pretty good! - take AA batteries so they can be swapped at a moments notice - better than having the ones with inbuilt lipo batteries that need to be returned for repair after they die. They connect to the 360 wireless controller with a provided BT dongle for the chat function, so are totally wireless from the base unit.

I have the PX5s (same thing but without xbox adapter) and I think they are average at best.
The dual bluetooth feature is the best thing about them, but sound is average, bass is pathetic.

I would buy a set of officially refurbished Astro A50s from Asto for USD$199 with free delivery

    • Don't forget the additional US$50-ish for postage

      • yeah, my bad, free delivery for US only. I personally would pay the extra.

    • I disagree mate, the Trittons are quality no doubt but I prefer the PX5's after you've tinkered with the equalizer a bit. The stock settings are terrible tbh.

      • I have played with equalizer, downloaded other presets, and tried my own.
They just lack bass, even the mids are very average. My far cheaper Sony ones sound far superior.
Even the in ear ones I have I use on PS4 have better bass.

        • Each to their own I guess, I upgraded the firmware to the newer Bravo Delta's FW when I got mine (same headset but with Call Of Duty branding and newer FW) and have had nothing but excellent sound from them since I customized my settings. Out of interest, where have you got the optical cable plugged into, console or TV?

        • Console/s.

I have upgraded firmware etc..but the drivers just don't produce any meaningful bass.

All the reviews I read before buying them said the same, so I knew full well going in. All reviews I have read post buying them including other variants still say lack bass.

When I got the Sonys for the second console as they were cheap, I was amazed at how much better they sounded overall, and how much more bass they could provide without being boomy or overwhelming.

I tried some Razer Chimeras, blew the TB out of the water by a mile. Pity they didn't work with PS3.

$260 compared to $350 for the XP510 model (more features), is a pretty good price. Currently on EBay from the official distributor QVS AUstralia. Limited time price: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Turtle-Beach-Earforce-XP510-/1411…

  • Nowhere near the cheapest they've been in the past, thanx tho op :-)

edit: wasn't bricks n mortar store tho and come 2 think of it were the Px5's without wirelesst chat dongle -my bad op.

    • Since I can edit: saw these for 250 at gametraders today, incase your local eb has no stock.

  • I have a Turtle Beach headset and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The sound is average and the microphone quality is atrocious. You also hear yourself talk which can't be disabled.

    • Which model? You know every brand make budget headsets right?

      • I wouldn't recommend them either unless you wanted the dual bluetooth feature.

  • Anyone looking for a decent cheaper headset that can live with stereo can check out JB hifi factory scoops for the Plantronics x95, I got one a few weeks ago and it's quite decent for 50 bucks

  • I've had a go recording and playing back voice on the X360 and can confirm the XP510 voice isn't the 'greatest' but the mic needs to be a fair distance from your head, not pulled close to the corner of your mouth…sound quality though is awesome, or at least for me with most games. You hear so much more than you'd expect without a headset!
