NSW Rego - Tare Weight Of Vehicle Listed As More Than Actual - In Turn More Expensive Rego

Guys,

Need your help. I received my NSW rego papers for my Mazda Cx-5 2013. It lists the TARE WEIGHT as 1505KG when really it is 1400 or around that.

As rego is based on weight, it is costing me a couple hundred more.

Any tips on what I should do or am I wrong about my car weight? The mazda site confirms it weighs less.

  • Nice work for spotting this, doubt many people would check

Unfortunately OP is mistaken. Whilst the kerb weight is listed as 1,443kg on the Mazda site (bare car, but including required fluids, but no driver or passengers), its the tare weight which governs your NSW rego payment amount. Tare weight includes the amount the vehicle is rated to carry, which includes the number of average passengers and cargo. Hence whats on your rego is about correct. The Tare weight for the Mazda Cx-5 2013 model is 3,426 pounds or 1554kg.

    • Sad face, I really wanted to not pay this amount. Thanks for explaining for me.

The hidden costs of bigger cars.

        that isnt 100% correct either

if you really want to pursue this, empty the car as much as possible and make sure the tank is as dry as possible

drive the car to a public weighbridge

pay $20, get a weight certificate

        go to rta

this is what i had to do a couple of times for imported vehicles

        there's no doubt that a basic petrol 2wd cx5 is under 1,500kg

  • 1400 is the kerb weight.

    • Hi Extremist,

According to Mazdas website, a CX5 AWD is over 1500kerb weight, thus the TARE weight would be even more.

The 2 wheel drive version might be under however.

So looks like the rego is right everyone.

      Thanks though!
