Snap Fitness, South Yarra VIC (Foundation Membership) $11.95 Per Week / $23.90 Per Fortnight

62

I've never joined a gym before and thought I would give this a go as it's brand new, due to open in late Feb/early March. I was looking at Goodlife but it's not 24hrs which is inconvenient for me as a shift worker, if it was open 24/7 I probs would have joined them cause they have group classes yoga etc and were offering a student rate of around $13 but yeah not open when I need it so did this instead.

  • They had 150 of these foundation memberships, I think the lady said there's 60 or so left *

  • The key is $49 once off, there is no joining fee, you don't pay anything until it opens, just fill out a one page form with your personal, bank or credit card details. *

The guy might ask you if you want 3 personal training sessions for $39 but that's up to you.

It's at 9/11 Claremont st, in a kind of residential looking building, there's some flyers on the door, and the floor plan of the gym

T&C's

I believe there's a $1.25 payment processing charge

I asked what happens if I go on holiday he said, they pause it at like $3/fortnight or something. You can also cancel and just keep your card and rejoin whenever

anything else I've left out?

Gyms and their "payment processing charge"s = Charging customers to take their money! Such a con with gym fees to hide the real weekly price.

That's standard snap rate. I pay $24-25 a fortnight, $0 joining fee because I negotiated, got a free PT sesh, and a free hand towel… No contracts.

  • That's a lot for a foundation membership! That is just a normal rate for any regular member plus at the moment there should only be a $20.14 joining fees and $25 for access card so 45.14$ in total.
Also the processing fee is for the company that processes the payments so snap does not make any profit or benefit from it therefore no need to 'hide' that fact. In my opinion negotiate and ask them to beat another gym in the area and they will!

If the processing fee is compulsory and they offer no way around it (cash deposit, bpay etc) then it is a blatant con. Also, if it is compulsory it should be listed in the price. If it's not, it's hidden.

  • thats not cheap! best thing to do is find a snap that just opened up and sign up, then go to the snap closest to you.

  • Jetts. Same price and no processing fee (at mine anyway).

    • And my local one also comes with free access to the indoor pool next door, free access to classes (boxing, yoga, boot camp etc) and a PT sesh on joining.

This is at Pacific Pines, Gold Coast.

      • My Jetts foundation membership was $348 per annum, making this Snap foundation deal… not such a deal..

        • I looked at Jetts but it's a bit far for me and there's no parking, nearest one is on st. kilda road

No joining fee huh? You think that key really cost them $49? Teeheehee ;-)

But seriously, this is really a standard rate for a 24hr place. Definitely would've expected a better deal for a foundation membership.

  • This is not the greatest deal for a foundation membership but it is still better than the normal rate as I called up 2 places today in BRIS and both were charging $0 joining, $49 card, and $13.95/week. So the $11.95/week is indeed cheaper than standard and yes it is the same as Jetts but from my experience Snap tends to have more squat racks and free weights/barbells so the extra $2/week is worth it.

Don't know whats going with the $1.25 payment processing charge as I never had that at my previous gyms.

  • Still paying $348 a year at Jetts. Foundation membership form Jetts Haymarket Sydney. No joining fees, card fees * free bottle, towel and backpack. Though I donät care about all that, $348 a year is awesome. :)
