Fujitsu ScanSnap ix500

I'm looking to "go paperless" and all my research is pointing towards a Fujitsu ScanSnap. They're not cheap though.

My current best price plan is to Get OW to pricematch eStore :

which should bring the price down to around $490.

Can anyone do better?

  • I have the previous model (Scansnap s1500).

It is one of the best in its class. Its still not as good as an MFC. You get a fair few misfeeds, but Ive had it for a few years now and its reliable.

Best thing compared to an MFC is that you can rig it up to automatically OCR the PDF file. Best thing since sliced bread. I have all my bills and crap on my computer and I can just search for them.

I dont think you will do better than $490. In fact that is a pretty good price. About on par with what Amazon are charging for it.

  • Hi ethanol, I just bought the same ScanSnap from OW the other day. I waited patiently for over a year waiting for a "deal" that never came before pulling the trigger. Good luck brother!

  • +1

    Thanks guys.

Paizuri, I have a MFC, but from what I see of the reviews, the ix500 does only scanning but does it very well (faster and easier than an MFC) - disagee?

    Is it going well Steve?

    • Just bought so haven't even plugged in yet. Like you, my research also pointed to the ScanSnap.

Why I couldn't get a deal is that it is a pretty obscure product and so the usual deal suspects like JB, Harvey Norman and Dick Smith don't stock it. The only major I could find was OW and even then it had to be ordered in for a 2 month wait.

I really, really didn't want to pay RRP, however, I also believe that a scanner is one of the world's greatest inventions right up there with fire, the wheel and the Internet.

      • Did you get them to PM anyone?

    • Sorry lads, should have clarified. By, MFC, I meant full sized MFC (like a photocopier). We have a Sharp MX-3810 which feeds paper a lot better than this, but then again it is a much more expensive machine. However, compared to a consumer MFC (like a Dell) this machine would be much better at scanning than one of those.

I generally find that I can only put 20 or so pages in the Scansnap. Also I do have a few misfeeds, and because the paper is fed lengthways, occasionally it does not scan perfectly straight.

However, I very much like the automatic OCRing of the text. I have had mine for a few years now and am happy to vouch for it, just dont expect it to do large volumes of documents.
