Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo NAS $79 from Harris Tech Free Pickup or ~ $11 Delivery

270

this is an older, superseded NAS - no USB3, but still has gigabit ethernet, bittorrent server and android/ios apps.

a very good basic nas for $79 - next cheapest on staticice is $130.

review here: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas-reviews/31340-new-to-…

apparently it can take 2 x 3TB drives.

  • Damn, I was hoping I could wait until the end of the week before this one was discovered!

It's a great unit, I have one and have ordered one for the parents as it's reliable and simple (once set up)

Set up IS a pain though so be prepared for some frustration.

    • i found setup pretty easy, i do think though the torrent part takes too long to get up from a browser and i wish there was an app to control the torrents directly (like utorrent mobile app).

      • can this be configure to work with VPN or torrent proxy? how easy is to add a torrent files to the server for it to download?

  • Been on the look out for cheap NAS. Pulled the trigger. Cheers.

  • Looks good, take the bullet. Now, in the market for HDD

  • +1

Word of warning, I have this NAS and I'm not sure if I haven't configured it properly, but it is quite crap.

When I have the mediaserver enabled file transfers peak at whopping 5mb/s. Typically muchhhh lower. It's so bad that me and my roommate cannot both be streaming at the same time from the device. Even when I turn it off, I have seen it peak at 20mb/s over wifi and only like 40mb/s over ethernet. Typically though, with mediaserver disabled I will get an average of 7mb/s over wifi.

Also, the web interface is just slow and really frustrating

I'm open to suggestions on how to fix this, but I highly recommend avoiding this product.

Put the $70 towards a hard drive for a microserver

    • I haven't experienced anything like this.

I have mine hooked up to a gigabit network over the house with ethernet over power for 2 other pc's and have had 5 devices streaming HD content simultaneously.

What HDD are you using in there and what router are you using because those numbers seem quite low.

When I transfer files over using windows I am getting anywhere from 40mb/s to 100 mb/s depending on file size and if anyone else is using it.

      • I don't know I had a slightly different/newer model or maybe there is a firmware upgrade/fix but I had one with identical appearance that was dog slow and sold it over a year ago.

  • just purchased but wondering what disks are compatibile with this unit? can someone post model numbers etc

  • Anyone know if this item will support NFS file system? Not NTFS, but NFS (Network File System). It's a much more efficient file system than Samba.

  • Great unit. I use it for torrents, media streaming, time machine, file storage. I run it in Raid with 2 x 3 Tb hdd

Hasn't skipped a beat. Found setup very simple, and have no issues at all with torrent web admin as others have said here.

  • Product not found. Possibly sold out?

  • She goneeeeeeeee
