I'd be quick to remind the community that there are still cheaper ways of obtaining this game

Yeah got PE for like $70ish through this way before the game was even released :)

    • I just tried it, Mexico is no longer listed as being available for free users.
Nevermind, logging in using the vpnu account instead fixed it.

  • I assume this is a USD price?

    • No it's AU$

Don't buy premium, we need to punish EA and DICE for full of bugs product.

    • what do premium give you anyway ? Except from occasionally weekend double xp.

      • All the DLCs and two weeks early access to DLCs

They had a bug in BF3 which meant you couldn't finish the single player game. With all the reports of bugs in BF4. I'm not going to bother this time…

      • I made my way through the pretty tech demo that was the BF3 campaign, but with BF4 I just couldn't be bothered after the first hour or so. If you're looking for single player only, you should skip BF4.

See my comment further down the page for my views on the multiplayer. In short, yes the stability issues were disappointing but they are improving (for me at least) and the gameplay is decent. Still holding off on buying Premium for a bit longer though.

Bought the base game on ebay in an auction for $31 last week (an AMD promotion code).
I've been playing it on a brand new computer (I found that here too https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/125071).

It's disappointing that it's crashed over a dozen times so far and I'm only on level 10. I don't intend on getting premium until everything is fixed up (if that ever happens!). Crashes happen for numerous reasons and each one I have googled has directed me to forums of equally frustrated players venting their anger. No solution to any of the problems is ever provided, usually I try a restart or try again in an hour - it's that ridiculous.

The game was optimised for the R9 series, I shudder to think what it's like for others…

I've logged just under 51 hours on BF4 and while it was appalling that EA clearly released a game that wasn't ready, it has definitely improved for me, stability-wise. I still get the odd glitch or crash but it's much less common.

Ignoring its disappointing release state, I am enjoying the game. I definitely like it better than BF3. Possibly not as much as I enjoyed Bad Company 2, but that was a while ago so perhaps I'm starting to feel the nostalgia on that one :)

It helps your enjoyment a LOT if you play with a friend (or two) and use some kind of voice chat, but I guess that's true of most online games.

As for Premium, yeah I'm still holding out for it to get cheaper and/or for the game to be rock-solid stable, which hopefully sends some kind of message. Having said that, apparently 'Second Assault' DLC will be available in February and it'll be tough to resist the chance to return to Caspian Border…
