I'd go for some of those, if my distrust of Steam was not so great. Anyone have any good/bad experiences with Steam to share?

Also, I won't personally consider the AU dollar strong again until it buys over 0.90 USD like seven months ago.

  • Geez, it's nice that someone on this site plays Steam.
I wasn't going to go on it this weekend, but now…

Our dollar is so good at the moment, these games are a bargain.

  • I say go for it. Great bargains here.

  • i've never used steam before. what's the deal with them? do you buy games and download them to your pc?

    • +1

Yes, basically it. It's pretty good most of the time…has it's annoyances but I'm fond of steam overall. Just keep in mind that with Australias caps you may hurt your monthly download quota if your account doesn't allow for much bandwidth.

Has a few other things like friends list, achivements, a store built into the App ect. I guess the big plus is you can re-download the games as often as you like if you format your PC or whatever.

    • That's exactly right; you buy the games online and download them to the PC. I haven't bought a boxed PC game in years because I prefer the Steam model. No paper junk to store, no mucking about, just download and play. The games are frequently cheaper on Steam. You can also install Steam on multiple computers (e.g. your laptop and your desktop) and the games will be installed to both, although you can only play one of them at once.

If you're on Internode then Steam downloads are unmetered. Makes it even more attractive.

      • Yeah I use both models. Sometimes steam prices are more expensive too so it still pays to shop around or whatever. I believe several of the major ISP's have steam servers so you can get free downloads too. iiNet via 3FL and Bigpond does too. You have to make sure Steam is actually connecting to the right servers buth otherwise you will be charged. Won't go into that but google for "Steam Watch" which can help.

        • anyone knows if Amnet has unmetered downloads from Steam?

Please be aware that '7 Wonders 2' is not compatible with Windows Vista x64. The game will display a "Range Check Error" on startup before abruptly crashing. I only discovered this after purchasing the game. No big deal though… The game was cheaper than a cup of coffee, and I still have my trustworthy old Windows XP box that will have no difficulties running a simple puzzle game like 7 Wonders :-)

  • Is Assassins Creed exactly the same on steam as it is in retail form? I'd like to give it a go on my computer.

    • imo, it should be the same. i don't see why not. i'm keen on getting it too.

    • Yes, the only difference is that it's a digital copy and therefore no box, cd or manual, etc

  • lol, I've forgotten how mind bendingly difficult freedom force is

    • interested in this too. pretty good price for the bundle. first game is pretty old though.

  • Anyone have UT3? Do a lot of people still play? I heard the community was dead but it's been revived ever since the expansion pack came out. Anyone know?
