Quote for teeth Whitening at dentist

Hey
I got a quote for teeth whitening at my dentist in Sydney. I have attached the quote. Can anyone with dentist experience be able to help me with a few questions?

Bit of background:
I had an injury with front tooth while playing soccer( tooth was bent 45$ degrees backwards). Went to the closest dentist that happened to be at opened on a Saturday. They moved the front tooth into place but over time the nerve died and i had to start root canal process on it. After root canal the tooth was brought back to the origin colour( slightly lighter).

  1. Is the prices reasonable? Would there be cheaper places to get the same treatment.
  2. Is it worth asking other dentists in the area?
  3. How long will the teeth whitening effect actually last?

You know what works really well. Colgate optic white, use it twice a day for a week and you will be shocked @ the difference for just using toothpaste :)All I buy now.
Alternatively you can ask your dentist for a free whitening kit, some give out free ones.

  • In true OzB style you could ask your dentist to just purchase the peroxide ($78) and whatever the GC Tooth Mousse ($27) is, and make your own mould using cheap mouth guards purchased from a chemist. Not sure if your dentist would sell the you the whitening agent without the 'individual whitening tray' (read: cheap plastic moulded mouth guard), but the price they are charging for 20 minutes work is astronomical!

Have you considered dental whitening strips like Crest (note: this link is for an Australian supplier, not Crest's official website)? I have used them in the past and you can get them with up to 16% peroxide content! Also, this site sells whitening kits with bleach and the trays for about 1/10th of what your dentist is quoting you!

    • The tooth mousse is supposed to help rebuild enamel. A friend of mine who vomits a lot had her enamel eroded and the dentist sold her this.

I bought some because it sounded cool. I haven't bothered using it though. My dentist says it really works.

  • I had my teeth whitened at the dentist many years ago and was shocked that private health reimbursed some of it. Have you checked with your insurer?

    • don't have health insurance
