Help Preserving A Mobile Number for $0

Hey guys,

Hoping someone may have some insights to help me.

I have a personal mobile number that I no longer will use due to the issuing of a work phone.

I do however want to keep the phone 'active' and not release the mobile number to anyone. I have switched to Amaysim PAYG so that I only pay for what I use, however will this eventually release my number if no data or calls are made each month?

I am keen for insights into how I can preserve this number without big bills, contracts or costs.

Cheers,

Batman.

  • Will you be able to keep the number if you 'receive' calls on the number?

Forward the number to your work number?

  • You just need to keep the Amaysim account active. This means recharging. (If you don't recharge the number is active for incoming calls for another 30 or 90 days, forget which, but you lose the credit.) Currently minimum recharge is $10/quarter so $40/year. There used to be a $5 recharge, but I can't find it now. You might be better off with Aldimobile which is $15/year.

And of course you accumulate credit if you don't use it.

Buy an Aldi $5 sim….last for 1 yr…make 1 call or sms on day 364…and top up again with $15 credit…that should be the "cheapest way"…I have 2 numbers that are following this strategy…

    • I don't think you even have to make that one call, the recharge is the main thing. But it's only 12c. BTW the Amaysim and Aldimobile rates to a few overseas destinations are even cheaper than local calls so you might consider surprising a relative with New Year wishes.

      @ Siu

NO other reseller beats this deal for a year (for a trusted mainstream co.using telstra network.)

Vodafone has a prepaid 365 days plan. The lowest credit is $20

  • Keep Amaysim AS YOU GO - I've got the same and I get a nice email every month saying:

"You've spent less than $10 since your last bill and to keep things simple we've decided not to send you a bill this month. If you’re on amaysim AS YOU GO, we'll send your next bill on your usual billing day, but only if you've spent more than $10 or if we haven't sent you a bill in 3 months, whichever comes first."

  • It's a $5 recahrge for 6 months on Telstra.
