Deals Direct WONT combine shipping + hidden charges = !

Hi guys,
I wanted to buy some of their fine goods, so I went ahead and registered, jumped all the hoops. Went back to the page and ordered two of my selected products…all OK… then went to checkout….all not OK.
They itemize GST as a separate amount and charge full rates (no combination discount). The shipping plus GST were more than the price of each item.
This made the inner tight-arse very unhappy.
So I chatted online with "Leslie" who kindly cut and pasted a series of proforma answers at me until I told them to forget it and logged off.
Just so y'all know.
Glad I used my disposable spam collecting hotmail account now…

I wonder if they will have one of their free shipping events soon.

    Are businesses allowed to charge GST separately? I thought not.

      dell does it, when you reach the last page it adds on 10% gst

    The last time I bought something off them, I don't remember them charging GST on top of the advertised price. As far as I know, whatever you see on the main page is the final price (GST inclusive). When you check out, you may get an itemized bill with GST component shown, however the final amount still equates to the advertised price.

    Also, I heard it's unlawful in Australia to exclude GST from the advertised price. So unless they have moved offshore or the law changed, then I think what you see on the advertised price + shipping is all you have to pay.

    As for the shipping, no comments on that as this depends on the policies of the individual companies with regards to combining them. If you're not happy with their shipping policy, I'd suggest you shop elsewhere. There are few other online bargain stores like them who do combine shipping (e.g. oo.com.au).

      From what I understand, it is illegal to advertise prices without GST unless it specifically states it's excluding GST on the advertisement. So if it has any fine print at the bottom of the page then they're still ok.

    Hi I used to be one of dealsdirects biggest suppliers.I now have my own store and even though it is going to be hard I will keep at it.
    At the risk of being accused of shameless self promotion i would like to say I agree about combined shipping.
    I intend combining shipping on 99% of my items.I also believe I can beat all the big shops on a lot of items especially perfumes.

    I dont have a lot of stock at present but I hope to grow,I am on the ground floor.i also believe that honesty in advertising is important.
