Delivery was just $2.

Have an older LG model at home, which I have been happy with. 5 year warranty on them.

Note that some Samsung models have cashback from Samsung themselves, which you can stack.

check that the 1500 limit has not yet been reached before buying: http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/BonusOfferListView

  • Even with their cash back, some models are still cheaper elsewhere. FWIW, Samsung have their own cash back promotion running atm. I just received a Samsung 7kW split system from Appliance Central for $1630, and Samsung provide $200 cash back on that. Here's the one I ordered: http://appliancecentral.com.au/shop/index.php?route=product/…

    • I sent my application for cash back to Samsung mid Dec and still waiting for it. Time for some answers.

      • Most cashback applications take a long time to process (typically a month or more in my experience).

      • We did around the same time too, got it last week.

  • How do you install one of these? Or does it come with install?

    • +3

You call a certified Split System installer.

According to the good guys website, "We simply deliver your order to your door and let you do the rest, easy!…"

      • +10

"We simply deliver to the door and F*** off, easy!.."

      • +1

Easy? - sounds like a breeze!

    • Anyone like to venture an estimate on the cost of install for a small unit (around 2.5kW)?

      • +3

It's usually around the $750 mark but that depends on how much aggro it is getting the power across to it.

      • +2

As a rough guide Bunnings charge $639 for a basic setup
        http://www.bunnings.com.au/our-services/in-home/air-conditio…

Private companies would probably charge a bit less, looking at $500+ though

      • +2

Actually, it's about $500 for a 2.5kW unit. That's what I paid previously. I think it was because the power usage is within the normal limits for an ordinary power points. Anything above 2.5kW was about $700+, if I recall correctly.

        • Actually you are right. I saw 2.5 but read 7.5.

      • Cheers!

      • +1

I had this guy install mine just before Christmas. His prices were on the cheaper side.
Very happy with his service in Perth.

    • The goodguys can do installation as well. Just click the installation link at top of page

  • Dam, beat me to the post.
I just bought myself a Kelvinator KSV26HRC 2.6kW unit from Osborne Park for $685 (plus $125 cash back) = $560 after cash back. Osborne Park has an instore special for $699 on that unit. On the website its $769 web special http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Kelvinator_C2.6kW_H2…

Guys - this is a very good deal - Thank you OP.
I have purchased a 7KW A/C from their previous deal

TGG do pricematch appliancecentral.com.au or appliancesonline.com.au
In my case, they matched the Samsung F-AR24FSSSBWK1 (7.0kw model) with appliencecentral (plus the cashback from TGG)

Samsung also is offering cashback at this moment

On top of this, if you live in SE QLD, you will get the 3rd cashback from Peaksmart program

At the end of the day, it cost me $899 (after the 3 cashback) for a 7KW revercecycle/inverter type A/C

    • +1

Cheers,. That Samsung is looking really good when the extra cashback is added. I was thinking of the Fujitsu 7.1kW, but I think I'll take a punt on samsung.

The fuji takes out the Choice review for this category because it's super efficient, but the sammy has better airflow, no R32, is quieter, has a fancy wifi app, and better warranty.

  • +1

The Samsung 7kw cooling is a great cooler! For the price, unbeatable. Doesn't perform as well hearing wise though from what I've read (Choice etc) As good as the best brands cooling though.

    • +1

I can confirm, it's almost silent… Using it heavily this summer

    • *heating not hearing.. :-P

  • What does Choice say is the best air con?

    • LG K09AWN-12 is supposed to be the best small aircon but there are issues with this rating as it doesn't account for reliability.

Our bedroom aircon packed up last year and we got a friend in who's an aircon engineer to give us some advice and install a new one. He warned us away from LG (he calls them 'low grade') aircons, and this is something that Choice touch upon in their review. Their units get good reviews but have the worst reliability (the Choice survey shows a 21% fault rate in the first 12 months!!). Fujitsu, Panasonic and Mitsubishi all have very good reputations for reliability, we went with a Fujitsu in the end because of the free money offer they were doing.

      • I have heard similar. But they sure look a lot better in design than other brands. 3 years ago we picked an LG over a cheaper Mitsubishi, because the Mitsubishi would have looked dreadful in our bedroom. Given the 5-year warranty I'm not too worried.

    • Not best, but as good as the best performers, which from memory were Fujitsu / Mitsubishi etc. The Samsung didn't perform as well as these in heating though as I said. But still, I paid just over 1k, which was FAR far less than the price of the best brands. Plus I only need it for cooling.

Edit. This was for the AR24FSSSBWK1 C7.0kw H8.0kw

    • +2

      I'm feeling generous… :-)

Choice - there were 40 or so in the test

      Teco TWS-TSO61HVB - Cooling efficiency = 95% / Heating = 65% - RRP $1549
      Fujitsu ASTG24KMCA - Cooling efficiency = 90% / Heating = 85% - RRP $2959
      Panasonic - CS/CU-E21PKR - Cooling efficiency = 85% / Heating = 78% - RRP $2399
      Mitsubishi Electric MSZGE71KIT - Cooling efficiency = 83% / Heating = 82% - RRP $2896
      Daikin FTXS71LVMA - Cooling efficiency = 83% / Heating = 80% - RRP $2030

      Samsung F-AR24FSSSBWK1 - Cooling efficiency = 82% / Heating = 72% - RRP $1949 (I paid $1530 - $450 cashback from GoodGuys / Samsung) = $1080!

      • Wait, the Teco one is the best? As in "overall best"? Or "most efficient"?
It has 1.5 star energy ratings!
        See energy rating website

        • There were other measurements in the comparo. The Teco sucked at 'Yearly running cost', also scored poorly in 'Airflow score' and 'Noise Indoor (dB)'. Not sure how they came to the high cooling efficiency score, I really can't be bothered finding out either tbo.

Funnily enough, the Samsung I quoted above got the best airflow score out of all tested!

I purchased two of the 2.5kw Samsung air conditioners last week at Harvey Norman. Cost me $799 each and less with the $100 cash back offer.

I selected this brand as I wanted to be able to operate them via my iphone both from my wifi and remotely away from the office/car etc.

I just had them installed yesterday and the costs were:
    $600 each basic install
$100 additional for brackets I had to get for the external unit as I wanted to put them on top of each other
$350 additional ($50 per meter of copper tubing) on top of the 3+3 meters I had for my basic install as I put my air conditioners on internal walls.

The installers took about 6 hours to install and it was very professionally done. The electrician ran the power supply directly through to my fuse box as opposed to the nearest power port, I had new fuse boxes set up for the air con units, color matched metal runners to cover the external tubing etc.

Very happy with the install and it was by S & heating and cooling (Vic) in case you want to use them.

    Regards
    DANIEL

    • Correction, the installer is S & L Heating & Cooling Pty. Ltd. Missed the "L".

Also, if you are planning a split system air con, please make sure that there is access to under your house (if ground floor) so the tradies can do a proper install of the electricals etc. Fortunately I had a manhole access area near the inner walls I was installing the units onto.

  • My two cents.

I'm looking to replace my 10y old Fuji. Based on two mates who are service agents, they suggest staying away from Fuji at the moment as they have a new gas that is very hard to source in Aus. Mitsubishi (not Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) and Daiken ($$$ on parts) were recommended. Lastly, for a cheap unit they recommend LG as parts are cheap and easy to obtain from service repair agents.. if you can handle the additional noise some of them make.

    • I have a couple of mates who are fitters. They recommended me to go with Fujitsu, they also said HI over Electrics as Electrics warranty service is terrible.

      • The Fuji is fine, I should have clarified that for my situation a self install with the new type gas is risky.

Each to their own I guess. One mate didn't like Daiken because of the price of parts and felt they are not as durable as other brands, while the other loves them because the parts are very easy to obtain and a lot of parts fit multiple models. Both are Daiken service agents.

Fitters are different to the warranty/service agents. It's one thing to sell a car, another to repair said car.

        • Yeah I understand that. My view though is that a service agent is likely going to recommend the brands that they deal with aren't they?

        • Not if they are mates(you'd hope). They could only reliable comment on the brands they service however.

    • I made a couple of enquiries about the new gas and I don't think it's a big concern. I believe the problem is that the new stuff is stored at higher pressure so the standard gas cylinders aren't up to the task. But won't be long before they fix that.

The new units come charged up with gas so as long as the install goes well it won't be a problem. TGG salesman said he knows of one install that leaked and apparently Fujitsu came out and replaced the whole unit 3 days later.

Definitely not that big an issue that it should influence any buying decision..IMO.

  • going to try and pricematch today, lets hope it works

  • I may be negged for this…but considering most of us will only use the air-con for cooling (and maybe that one or 2 days of heating)…Is it really worthwhile to go for a brand name?

We bought a 6.1kw system 1.5 yrs ago for cheap and it still works fine now…In fact, the updated model of what we bought is on sale here:

    http://www.esold.com.au/6-1kw-inverter-reverse-cycle-air-con…

pretty darn good deal for a 6.1kw unit with a sanyo compressor…

if you want a unit with a Toshiba compressor, it's here:

    http://www.esold.com.au/pye-6-5kw-reverse-cycle-air-conditio…

Depending on your usage pattern, it may be best to buy an el-cheapo unit and if/when it does die, you could almost go buy another one for what you originally saved…

    • I don't think it's that bad to get a cheap brand, however with the install cost being so significant ($700+ for this sort of size), from my point of view I'd rather pay a few hundred extra and get better warranty, better support, and in some cases better features (eg, Samsung's wifi module), especially if your expectation is to replace it when it dies (and have to pay another install fee).

    • No negging for polite opinions.
I agree with your theory in principle, but if the price difference is not massive, I rather go with something with good support, and a large store behind it. Not sure what "eSold" warranty is worth.
I actually need the heating more than the cooling. I can stand 26 degrees in the bedroom, but not 13.

  • Bit the Bullet and bought the Fujitsu ASTG24KMCA 7.1kW. Sticker Price $1849. Price Match Billy Guyatts $1635-$250(Cash Back) = $1385. (53% of the absurd $2959 RRP !)

I was tempted by the Samsung but the Fujitsu topped the CHOICE show down, and everyone I spoke to said Fujitsu. I'm not a big fan of the Samsung design either.

I checked about new R32 refridgerant and I'm not concerned. It comes charged so if the install isn't bodged then no worries. If it is then apparently Fujitsu replace the whole unit because they know that not being able to re-gas at the moment is a problem. Fingers crossed I don't need to find out.

    • I bought the 8kw/9kw ASTG30LFCC for $1700 last month from TGG. Looks like it was a good price.

edit/ actually looked at docket, I paid $1800.

    • You can't even access Billy Guyatts' split air con page right now. Page is down.

  • Not caring what it looks like I bought the Samsung 5kw from Good Guys. 1499-300 = 1199. Should do nicely. Thanks OP.

I did hit a little snag because I bought online and they don't issue a docket number till delivery occurs. With claims for air cons going down one per minute (approx) I didn't want to sit on it for another 24 hours. Rang the Good Guys 1300 number and they sent me to the store of dispatch and they organised a docket number straight away. Very good service.

    • You could have got the 7kW Sammy for less. Applicance online pricematch ($1630) - $250 -$200 = $1180

But if you only need 5kW there's not much to be gained I suppose, and $1199 is still a good price. And you saved the hassle of dealing with salespeople. I waited 35min for 'assistance' today, for a sale that took 2min.

      • Oh i know, but the 7kw would have been overkill for the room size + i'd just be sucking more juice.

The 5kw is a already a bit bigger than I need plus I have another air con there already that's not coming out - from before our extension. It's fine if you're alone but put a couple of people in the room doing stuff and it's useless, which usually occurs on weekend days when it's stinking hot. The small one is aimed at my desk. The bigger one I'll have aimed at the lounge and pool table. Can't beat the options now :)

      • How did you get that price match anyway … TGG doesn't have the Sammy 7kw eligible for cashback, just the 5 and then the 8. The 7 is missing from their list to claim.

EDIT: but it is in their catalogue. Hmmm.

  • Anyone know of a good installer around Northmead/Castle Hill/Parramatta?

Should I go with TGG installers?

  • Thanks I did got down yesterday and picked up an aircon. It was $1850 and they made it $1800 even with the cash back! Great stuff. Install wise in Perth, they recommended DTC on 94345353 which charge a bit as my house is two story and the unit needs to be on brackets. $780! And no doubt I will get charged for extra pipe run. Ran it past another installer and said it was a fair price.

  • +1

Did my sums for 2 x 2.5kw samsung units…my local store only had 2 units left…so i rushed down there to buy them an hour ago. Haggled them down to $790 each…So effectively, $565/each after TGG and Samsung's cashback…That's a bargain! Anyway, as they will go into a rental property, the depreciation value will still be $790…so very tax effective too!

When I was at the store, I was quite impressed with the samsung unit…they now adopt a "triangle" shape which supposedly increases the air volume capacity and i watched the demo regarding the wi-fi!!! wow…such a cool design…

    • Yeah, hooking it up to wifi and to make them available on the net so I can access it from work is very cool as well.

      Bloody quiet as well.

      Daniel

  • 363 claims left…That's a big difference to when I claimed last nite…It was like almost 700…I would like to think us OzBargainers are in force on this deal and have been the main reason to this result! If that's the case, when summer arrives, us OzBargainers will all be cool whilst surfing online at home…

    • +1

What country are you posting from? Summer is here already.

      • Must be an island off Hobart

  • removed

  • Down to ~20 claims left, it will be gone by lunch.
Got a samsung unit at GG Chadstone, the grumpy old salesman last night wouldn't pricematch but the friendly guy this morning did.
5kw unit once all cashbacks are done will cost me $995. Pretty happy with that, now just need a group buy on installations!

  • Has anyone received the cashback from TheGoodGuys yet?
I have received my cashback from Samsung and Energex rebate.. yet awaiting from retard OZ retailer

    • Nope.
      From their email:
"You will receive your RealCash Visa Card/s in the mail by 10th March 2014."

So I wouldn't be concerned yet.

  • Got mine today….

  • yeah got mine about a week ago.
