  • I have this set. Is there a cheap way to sharpen it?

    • Get the Miro sharpener - the ceramic rings last forever.

      • I know the micro sharpeners are made for the Global knives, but are the pull knife sharpeners actually good for the knives? I was just told the steel/ceramic rods are good enough.

  • Reviews for this set is generally poor. Ignore the RRP as the usual price for this set is around $350.

    • what knife block would you recommend then?

      • Have a look at Wusthof if you don't mind heavier knieves. They are generally more expensive then their Global counterpart but they are worth it.

        • The above Global set is light and balanced perfectly… absolutely nothing wrong with them.

        • wusthof and global knives are quite different.

i would advise buying individual knives rather than a knife set…but if you want a knife set, wusthof and global are both great, depending what sort of knives you're after.

    • Hmmm… From what I've read and heard Global knives are actually pretty good. I've met people who previously purchased Wustof and then stopped and started using the global ones.

Apparently they're lighter, have a sharper edge and is well balanced (The handles have been filled with sand to balance out the blade and the fused seamless handle).

Myer have them for about $399 until January the 27th i think, so these are actually pretty good.

  • That's a good deal. I bought mine for $310 back in Jul 2012.

    The Millennium 7 piece set is always $259 online from POK for east coast folk;

Can't really compare the two sets, the Millennium set has smaller knives compared to Ikasu.

      Millennium
      8cm Peeling Knife
      10cm Paring Knife
      11cm Utility Knife
      14cm Vegetable Knife
      15cm Serrated Utility Knife
      20cm Cook’s Knife

      Ikasu
      8cm Pairing Knife
      11cm Utility Knife
      13cm Cook’s Knife
      14cm Vegetable Knife
      20cm Cook’s Knife
      22cm Bread Knife

      • I rarely use the bread knife tbh. I think I'd rather a 15cm utility knife instead… however losing the 13cm cooks knife is a bummer. That's my second favourite knife in the set.

        I use in order:
        20cm Cook
        13cm Cook
        14cm Vegetable
        11cm Utility
        8cm Pairing
        22cm Bread

Getting a 15cm Serated is very tempting, but not at the cost of losing the 13cm Cook.
