Not at all hard to find in Sydney. I see them at all those kiosk style sock shops in Shopping Centers/Malls. Usually 3 pairs for $10 but not as high quality as those from ASOS.
Also they are available from MYER (more expensive) and in Woolworths (I saw them in the Sydney Town Hall store).
Back in my day, we called these sockettes.
