Fetch TV with Optus‏

Hi All,

Looking at changing from Foxtel to Fetch TV and dont know the first thing about it.

Online reviews dont have much to say, and just wanting to hear if anyone has changed over to the new Optus Fetch TV and the experience they have and any issues?

Would it be worth changing over or does it still have issues like i was reading about in early days.

The issue i have is will it slow down the tv when streaming on a laptop also, being that it is using data. I will be on the unlimited plan so data doesn't matter but just will it be able to handle downloading/online games and streaming to the TV at the same time.

Thanks

  • I would say that it depends on your perimeter equipment.

If your router is configured/configurable to prioritise IPTV traffic, then you should be OK.

If Optus prioritizes IPTV on their edge then you might be OK, otherwise try and learn to throttle your traffic when watching IPTV.

Remember that only non-terrestrial and additional traffic goes over the link, but the EPG also does too.

  • We have Optus Fetch TV with the Entertainment Package, switching from Foxtel. It is great! Would NEVER go back to Foxtel again.

    Get it!

  • Thanks Pax and Colbus123

I was also looking at the unlimited entertainment package with cable internet, how long have you had it? have you ever had any issues? or drop outs at all? just been reading also about peoples fetch boxes breaking and having to wait for another one, or freezing lagging with the picture on tv?

    • I've only just got FetchTV through iiNet (basic package), so am probably not in a position to give a good reply as yet.

  • We have had Fetch TV for 4 months and Optus Cable for over 10 years.

The cable network is often congested, especially in Sydney and especially during the school holidays.

Only rarely does the picture on the TV lag or freeze up, and it is usually when we are streaming Youtube or videos on our other devices at home at the same time.

Fetch now offers so many more channels than it use to, and now it is great value compared to Foxtel.

  • Thanks for your advise though Pax.

Colbus123, i do you tube alot but also online gaming so would i be safe to say it wouldnt work for me or what pax says, you would need to tell your router to priority to IPTV am i right? Thanks again for your help

    Cheers

  • Maybe? I am not 100% sure if the Optus routers have that function.

Glad I could be of assistance.

  • I'm looking to get this pack in April when I move house, with the $15 extra for premium speed. How did you go Mikester, did you end up getting it?
