Quality Restaurant in Perth that will do separate tabs/bills (probably counter meals type-ish) that will also allow BYO wine.

I would like to arrange a meal in Perth for 10 - 20 people. I do not want to split the bill at the end, either evenly or individually. It MUST be BYO because the event will revolve around wine.

Splitting the bill is a pain for the restaurant and it seems the only ones who do something of this nature would be pub type places where you pay get a number and then they bring you your food, which obviously would not be that keen on BYO.

Maybe this would be good with a place that doesn't quite yet have their license.

I'd prefer it be in either the western suburbs or in one of the nicer areas, not out near the airport or way north or way south.

Any ideas? Thanks

  • I'd be interested to hear of ppls experiences with this too. The solution many restaurants offer is a fixed price banquet menu - maybe this would suit if your guests did not order any extras, or soft drinks were included as well as corkage. Blend in Melville has good vibes and a good range of banquet options, and the food is suitable for wine matching. Many Asian restaurants offer good banquet options but may not pair as well as Italian / modern Australian / etc. Catalano's in Vic Park might be worth investigating. Or, for a quieter option (but they book out!) try Itz Amore in Myaree.

You can also get a list of byo restaurants using Urbanspoon. Maybe use that as a starting point.

    • Yes, I have been thinking a fixed price menu. The mindset a lot of people have is that if they are paying 1/15 of the bill, they are going to do their damnedest to take full advantage. I don't eat much so it pisses me off when people order "for the table" stuff that I can not eat, don;t want to eat or I am happy eating either one entree or main.

Is it really that hard, when the bill comes, everyone works out what they ordered and throws the money in the middle, then the ozbargainer grabs the cash and pays the bill using their ing card (obviously in lots of $99)

Catalanos has great food, I'm also a fan of Bella Rosa as their portion size is huge.

    • Agree, isn't it so much easier to just take cash and ask guests to do the same? I always take extra smaller notes so that those few who need to go to an atm and come back with $50 notes can use my smaller notes which will already be in the pile ;)

    • The problem with this is people order crap "for the table". Bread, bruschetta, calamari. I do not eat any of that stuff and many other items.

For the number of times, the average person goes out, its worth just throwing in the extra dollars.

The bread, bruschetta and other crap may come to $30 - $40, divided by the 20 people its a couple of dollars.

For me the extra cost of a couple of dollars is worth it, if everyone is having a good time.

Don't worry about the few extra dollars, go out and have a good time, the day after grab a bargain on this site, it all balances out. We have to pick our bargains, but also enjoy going out.

        • So are you suggesting taking the whole bill and dividing it evenly, because you are then talking about a bigger disparity? Some people will eat entrees only some three courses. These are not people I know well, some not at all. If I have a $25 vegetarian main, I feel no desire to subsidise some bloke I don't know who is having at least two courses. That is why I am looking for separate bills or set menu.

This works well with smaller groups/friends. But larger groups… Sigh. Someone always forgets that they had 3 orange juices; someone else thought the side of beans was included etc. etc. And some people skimp on purpose!

Set price menus defo the way to go with nonfriends :) The difficulty is finding the trifecta of good food, set menu, and BYO! :)

  • No, I'm not suggesting that, but it isn't a hard proposition. If I go out with a group of people, the way it generally works is, I pay for my beers, I pay for my mains, I pay for my coffee, and if there was any bread, bruschetta or garlic bread bought I throw in an extra few dollars. I've even thrown in for corkage, when I don't even drink wine.
