Best option to relocate with TPG?

Hi all,

We are moving out around mid Feb. I called TPG it will cost 129 dollars to relocate and take 10 to 20 days to relocate.
I am wondering should I stop my current account and set up new one?
anyone has done it before?

Thank you for all the reply

  • Are you still under contract?

  • Call TPG and find out what the disconnection/contract termination fees are.

  • When i moved nearly 2 years ago, I successfully negotiated with TPG to reduce the relocation fee to be the same as the new connection fee for a 6 month contract - its ridiculous to pay more to relocate than to establish a new connection.

    • Yep, me too. I did that last year when we moved from Brisbane to Perth. Just tell them that you're relocating and if they don't reduce the charge, you'll cancel and go with someone else. That got them excited when I did it.

  • Naked? ADSL2+?
The price of relocation should only ever cost more than a new signup if you are still under contract, and so have already used your contract discount.

    eg. Look at iiNet
$79.95 setup fee if not going on a contract, $0 if taking out a contract
If you relocate while under contract (and so had a $0 setup in the first place), then you should pay the full $79.95 to relocate.
If you are not under contract, or your contract has finished, then you should pay the discounted rate ($0) IF you want to take out another contract.

  • I had the same situation last year. I was not under contract. I asked to set up a new one (fee $89 or 99 i forget, and get another new modem!) Rather than paying relocation fee. But they said i have to give them notice 30 days before disconnect (had to pay $59.99/month again)
As i had to relocate less than that period, and compare the fee ($129 vs $89+59.99) i ended up paying the relocation fee.
If i am not mistaken, i think they put me under a new contract for 6 months. What a sht policy.
I had no other options as they are quite cheap (and quite good) for ADSL2+ in the market.
Wanting to hear everyone options in case i have to relocate…

  • If you're out of contract, churn to clubtelco BEFORE you change address. They have no contracts and free relocation. Then after you've moved, churn to whatever ISP you want.

  • I tried relocating tpg before. I rang and they came back with a quote for me. If I signed a new contract and relocated, then they would charge ~$90 for 6month contract, or ~$60 for 12month (roughly)
