Woolworths Fuel Discount - Priority of Vouchers

I suspect this has been discussed before but I could not find a similar thread, so here goes.

I filled my tank yesterday and was looking forward to claiming the 20c litre discount that I earned at the end of last year. When I went to pay I swiped my Everyday Rewards card and it gave me only a 4c litre discount. I protested to the service station employee but got nowhere.

I subsequently checked my Everyday Rewards card and it seems that although I have a 20c a litre discount, it applied a 4c litre discount that expired on the day I filled up. Surely the highest discount should be applied first, not the one with the earliest expiry? I may not fill up again before the 20c litre discount expires, so I am pissed off to say the least. Does anyone know how this works?

One of the reasons why i hate the everyday rewards card. I rather stick with coles' fuel vouchers.

  • Yes that's one reason to get paper vouchers or at least not put more than one voucher on the EDR card, you retain control over when they are applied.

  • Exactly the reason why I used to not scan my everyday rewards card if I knew I would get a 4c off coupon. I don't think you are going to get anywhere (although I understand you are extremely angry right now as I was also in the same boat earlier).

But don't waste a lot of your time on this as the higher discounts have already ended and so once you have used up your old vouchers, its always going to be 4 cents :)

i use 2 cards - one for 4c, and the other for 16c/20c etc. although now i'll be back to one :(

  • That seems odd, as the link here says: "The Everyday Rewards card automatically redeems the highest value fuel saving voucher first then the oldest fuel saving voucher. This ensures that you receive the benefit of the maximum fuel saving first but may result in an earlier fuel voucher expiring."

I can confirm that my 20 cents vouchers gets used up first even if there are 4 cent ones with earlier expiry, in accordance with the practice above.

Also the FAQ says you can't change the order of fuel vouchers expiring from the above order.

I wonder if you stumbled onto a bug with your card?

    • I'm pretty sure that's how it worked previously when I had a larger discount, and why I was a bit miffed when this happened.

  • I have always received the higher discount using the rewards card. But once I had an 8 cents off voucher and it scanned 4 cents off. I did the maths and then the servo quickly rectified it.

  • Good discussion, if not for the fact this will never occur again, so not much point anymore unfortunately.
