Best budget air purifier

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where to buy or can recommend a decent air purifier? I have a budget of about $200-$350. I've been told that Sharp makes decent ones and I was looking at this:

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

  • I might buy this one myself: http://www.echolife.com.au/products/ionmax-ion401-tower-air-…

because Alan from Brisbane has NO QUALMS IN RECOMMENDING THIS PRODUCT

Pretty positive reviews all around, have to wait a month though.

  • have you considered a Himalayan salt lamp?? on Gold Coast can get at MyGem in Surfers Ave Miami. Get a large one for good value.

    • I had a look into these and people have mixed opinions on them. Some of my family have them but they end up not being used (edit: because apparently they don't feel like it works).

I have had a Sharp one for bout 18 months now and I am happy with it. I wouldn't go for a filterless Ionmax purifier to be honest. Having a carbon filter and a HEPA filter is much more effective in trapping dust and alergens than stainless steel blades. They just need to be cleaned and replaced every few years. I no longer wake up with a blocked nose after starting to use the purifier.

A word of warning, the Sharp one is really sensitive at detecting smells. No fart, no matter how small will go un-noticed. A red light will come on and it will kick into turbo mode.

    • I'm sold on the sharp one. That fart part is something I'll definitely look out for (and try), sounds interesting lol. Thanks :)

  • Thanks for the tips every1!

  • LAY OFF THE BAKED BEANS!! We have 3 salt lamps which are still working well after 5 years - only had to change the globes a couple of times. As we also have 2 large dogs who definately have wind problems ( or so my husband tells me! ) These are coping well.

  • Bumpity bump!

Watty dude, what did you end up buying, may I ask?

I'm in need of one asap. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

marcusv's comment re: the fart has swayed me into thinking Sharp too, now. lol

    • Hey! I ended up not buying the one I wanted. At Bing lee they said they could do it cheaper (after showing them the link on my phone) but I felt that the purifier was to small. So to get some fresh air, I moved my desk next to my window and now It's freezing my face. At least there is fresh air lol

May I ask why you would buy one of these?

They clean dust, pollen and other impurities (mostly farts) from the air. I used to wake up most mornings with a blocked nose and dry throat but I haven't since getting the air purifier. My fiance is extremely sensitive to dust and pollen, she sneezes constantly and gets itchy eyes. Again, this has not been a problem since getting the air purifier. She also likes the white noise it creates as it helps her sleep.
