Even at 30% off its still not cheaper than buying online.
The location really did no favors for Gamesworld, next to The Warehouse and a bottle shop, Tasman meats close by… If this store was in DFO, maybe a different outcome?
If you ask me, the external appearance of the store could do with a massive make-over to attract the kids and make it look far more fun rather than the run-down discount emporium from the wrong-side-of-the-tracks look they have going.
But then again, I am very negative on the costs associated with running a biz in this country given the cards we are dealt by our lovely overlords. So I don't know if that would help.
LOL I think it definitely couldn't hurt!
Problem is, doesn't game workshop just sell really small, niche stuff like miniature Warhammer figures that you paint and obscure boardgames, etc? In my opinion, that sort of stuff really only calls for an online store rather than a physical shop.
Plus being all the way out near Moorabbin airport and in amongst discount, bargain bin shops and Tasman meats isn't the greatest idea for a location by any rational train of thought!?
If you're going to put it anywhere, put it in a shopping mall or arcade where you will have a much higher chance of getting in the sort of customers you're appealing to.
My $0.02 anyway, for all its worth ;)
theres a GDW game shop on the street level floor of westfields parramatta
it always intrigued me to work out how they could make the rent on the place
it must have been in the range of $3,000+ a week
selling warhammer 40,000 figures is that lucrative?
Games World != Games Workshop.
selling warhammer 40,000 figures is that lucrative?
Yes. Don't know about these days, but a while back many parents used these places as creche. Kids would then pester parents to spend crazy money there. Adults who were genuinely interested in the game where the losers.
The stuff in there was really over priced. Not sure if 30% would cut it. I remember seeing a 1000 piece Twilight puzzle for $100+. That was crazy.
There weren't any games that caught my eye yesterday, but there's a massive rage of Catan games for anyone who's interested. Also, they had The Game of Thrones Board Game (Second Edition) for $75 before discount which I have and would highly recommend.
If that is still an additional 30% off, huge bargain. Would love it.
The Game of Thones boxes I saw had a $95 tag. Still good, but not a massive abrgain.
If I'm right, this joint has been there since at least the 80s… shame, but it's hard to compete now with any sort of non-perishable, easily transportable stuff.
Think that's the Southland store?
Pretty much everything in that area is as old as DFO which would have to be around 10 years old.
Agree with all of the above though, bad location. Not a real residential hub, so you need all the thoroughfare from DFO which people aren't going to bother with. Despite the inflated prices at least you'd have the kids tagging along nagging their parents if it was inside DFO itself.
Reasonable stock of Carcassonne stuff still at reasonable prices. Catan is mostly just 5-6 player expansions. Lots of more genetic board games.
Bex: where did you get this news from? Any chance of further discounts?
Sales assistant said the 24th. Not sure if any further discounts later sorry.
Love to check out a few boardgames, but geographically challenging to get there.
Some online love would help. Milsims seem to make that work.Yeah wanted to check it out. No online site. No Bingo :(
I guess the clearance outlet store line became a self-fulfilling prophecy?

In all honesty I wonder how half the businesses I see open today remain in business (assuming they are honest businesses to begin with, and not fronts for drug operations). The running costs we pay in this country…
