Anyone stayed at Novotel Fenix Silom Bangkok?

Hi all. My partner, my 5 year old daughter and myself are heading off to Thailand for 2 weeks and I've been researching accommodation. I'm after something budget, clean, safe and hopefully not disgusting.

I've been reading a lot of reviews on tripadvisor and now I'm after opinions of bargain minded people.

So far Novotel Fenix Silom seems to be a good choice after trawling through innumerable hotels and reviews. It's fairly cheap, looks clean, has a good amount of positive reviews, is close to the city with lots of food options around, and close to transport.

Has anyone stayed at the Novotel Fenix Silom? Was it good value for money? Any advice?

We are looking at about $86 a night including what is apparently a pretty good breakfast according to the reviews.

  • Hi Suby,

If your not too fussy with 5 star comfort… I would suggest looking at private rooms in hostels…

I found hostels in SE Asia much cheaper than hotels… I've seen quite a few families stay in them…

Obviously make sure you read reviews on them… but from my experience they meet all of your requests clean, safe and cheap!

Evergreen Place will get you a self contained small apartment for that price. Is very central, 200 metres to sky train through Asia Hotel. Walking distance to MBK, Jim Thompson's house and Siam Square, Ratchatewi station is one away from Siam. Good reviews on Trip Advisor. Great place to stay and staff adore children. JoyV

    • +1 for Evergreen place. It's also my choice for BKK visits due to location.

Hey, I am currently in Thailand and we just spent 10 nights at the Novotel Fenix Silom over christmas having snared the 40% off plus free breaky at about $50 per night. At that price it truly was a bargain, however for couple traveling with their 5yo I think much better deals can be had with far more room to move in the $70 range including breakfast if you do your homework and use wego.com.au combined with any current coupons that give you extra cash off. JoyVee suggested the Evergreen which I would also recommend having stayed their. We also stayed a week in a private apartment in the state tower condominiums on the 43rd floor over NYE and had the most amazing view of the river for $50 AUD per night and you could kick a football in the place it was that huge, also had high speed internet and cable with a ton of movie and sport channels, You can also just go down to level 10 and go across to the Lebua hotel pool which is in the same building if you need to cool off. No breakfast included of course as they are private condo's (owner has about 30?) but it has a self contained kitchen to cook for yourself. I have been back forth to bangkok on about 10 occasions now and so far the private condo's are the best value I have found. If you need some more info, just PM me. Enjoy the trip.

I have been to Bangkok 40+ times and I must say that the Silom area is not a favourite area of mine. There are good areas of it, but it has very bad bar areas, and around the Skytrain & subway stations the footpaths are choked with people. Thanon Khao San area is the backpacker area - ok if you are 20 year olds and no children. I would recommend the Sukhumvit area. I know that this is the foreigner area, but the pockets of bars are quite discreet, and you probably will not even see them unless you go looking for them. there are good family friendly pubs, hotel bars & restaurants, and other restaurants in the area, and an infinite number of good value dining options. I mostly stay Citadines 8 Bangkok Sukhumvit soi 8 Bangkok. They have the options of Standard room, 1 br suite, and 2 br suite.
The standard room has a lounge area with a japanese sliding door separating it from the queen size bed. There is room in it for a rollaway/fold up bed for a 5 yo. ALL rooms include cooking facilities. You can request a room with a bath if you need it. There is a 24 hour tuktuk service which takes you up the quiet dead end street (no through traffic so no traffic snarls) and drops you at the corner of Sukhumvit road, right at the escalators for Nana skytrain. Just buy a 50 baht sim card and 100 baht credit, and you can ring the tuktuk to pick you up 24 HOURS A DAY! Reception will help you to set up your phone. A lot of hotels are not 24 hour tuktuk service and they are in traffic snarled streets and so it takes forever - almost useless. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Soi 8 is family friendly. In soi 8 there are family friendly pubs and many many good quality/value restaurants. If you become a member of https://www.the-ascott.com/en/myascott/login.html they usually have sales where members get a better price when you book in this quarter, for stays in the next quarter (you have to login to see the member price) Usually about 1500 baht including service charges and taxes, otherwise you will pay about 1750 baht. Brekky is additional 200 baht. I would rather eat brekky out though. I normally eat some fruit, cereal and coffee in the room and then go out for brunch. Australia network tv channel gives Aust news 2 x day, plus other current affairs. Rooms have room safes, Irons, and ironing boards. They get a lot of families staying there due to the 2 bedroom suites. Gym, Laundry room (washer & dryers) and small pool.

  • I just got back from Bangkok and stayed in the Silom area (albeit for just three nights) and quite enjoyed it. I ventured over to Sukhumvit and it looked good too. Both areas are easily accessible on the BTS.

I stayed in Marvin Suites in Silom and was so happy with it. Great customer service, great price, excellent little cafe downstairs (Cosy Cafe or something like that) with a good breakfast, great staff and good prices. And great coffee which for me is a must. I would definitely recommend Marvin Suites as a place to stay - it's a serviced apartment as opposed to a hotel or hostel so it is quite swish and has everything that you need. • just out of curiousity, how much to stay per night?

We paid about $65 Australian per night for a one bedroom suite.

    • Each to their own, but for me it would be quite isolated. I have been in the area and there are some high class restaurants nearby though, and Vertigo at Banyan is well worth a visit even if just for a drink and see the sunset. There are food places everywhere in Bangkok (Food is their addiction). In Sukhumvit area you can walk to great food, garden setting restaurants (soi 11) many pubs, & massage places. & short skytrain to MBK (shopping) or taxi to Pantip Plaza (Computers) or next door to PP are 2 big fashion malls mostly accessories and ladies clothes.

      • After two weeks in Thailand we were happy to be a little isolated; we were still able to BTS it everywhere and the red buses got us most places too. I think I would probably stay in Sukhumvit next time though. We went to the brewery there (soi 11 I think, or near there) and had a great time.

  • We stayed at Novotel Siam square bangkok in November with 2 kids thought the location was great. The Novotel standard was great there so I'm sure it's just as good at silom
