Whilst searching for a deal on new apple product, came across this.
Couldn't see if this has been posted previously but here goes.
Apple has determined that certain Seagate 1TB hard drives used in 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac systems may fail. These systems were sold between October 2009 and July 2011.
Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) will replace affected hard drives free of charge.
Apple is contacting affected iMac owners who provided a valid email address during the product registration process to let them know about this program. If you have not been contacted, but think you have a 1TB Seagate hard drive, you can enter your serial number to see if it's part of this program.
Now having to lug my 27" to Apple Store,
Ugh !
Hi,
In Victoria Designwyse offered this:
http://www.designwyse.com.au/dw-content/service/APPLE%20HD%2…
I guess, what I'd suggest is you see if you can find a Perth based service that might
offer you the option of an SSD Drive Upgrade at a small additional cost, rather than a straight swap for just another HD.
http://service.trinix.com.au/ @ Welshpool are worth telephoning as they are aware of this the Seagate issues but of course have to probably contact Apple to verify your HD is in the affected group.
Also, think about a RAM upgrade (if required) while you have the back off and a clean up to date OS install.
