New kitchen cupboards: laminate vs paint vs spray paint

Hi,
I wanted to get some opinions from people about painting or laminating old kitchen cupboards.
Currently they are a peach/yellow colour and I would like to change them to just a plain white.

Ive asked a painter to do a sample for me with white knight laminate paint and to be honest it doesn't look great.

I was wondering if anyone has idea on how to change the color of kitchen cupboards that are laminated currently.

I've thought of contact paper and spray paint.
But does anyone have a cheaper alternative?

Thank
Elee

  • Penetrol is a product that enables you to paint on any surface ie glass and plastics etc It might be worth looking into to ensure a good bond
Just be aware that if you paint them and are not happy with the finish you can't undo it, so possibly do a sample first, inside of a door or somewhere that wont be seen.

Are they standard sized doors? If so it might be worth asking in freecycle or the local classifieds in case someone is remodeling a kitchen.

  • Thanks for the advice Geewhizz. I'll have a look into it.

Most of the cupboards are of a standard size we have three that are quite big but great idea about looking in classified….could just replace the cupboard doors.

I painted my horrible timber laminate kitchen cupboards, after using a product like Penetrol, nearly 10 years ago and it still looks fine today. Depends on the finish you want really. They are still old cupboards and nothing is going to make them look new :) When I use this product, I always use oil based paint.
