One of our daughters was given the Chocolate Fondue Fountain for Christmas. First use the other day was a success (my wife purchased chocolate buttons for it) we first melted the chocolate in the microwave and then poured into the fountain. With a large variety of cut fruit and marshmallows the kids loved it and it worked well. Was easy to clean and put away with all the other crap gadgets that don't get used.

I bought one last year for $6, used it twice so it's paid for itself already. It uses a LOT of chocolate (we needed five 250G blocks just to get it going) but finished most of it between four people. Fruit and strawberries go very well in it. We all felt rather ill the next day, but it was a good kind of ill.

The instructions said to mix vegetable oil with the chocolate to keep it flowing smoothly, but a food chemist friend told me cream should do the same thing and it tastes better.

Just don't go trying to pour cold cream directly into the fountain if the chocolate levels are getting low. Anything cold hardens the chocolate immediately and seizes the mechanism, so you have to dismantle the entire thing. Learned that the hard way. It does have its own heater to MAINTAIN the chocolate as a liquid, but it's not powerful enough to melt fresh chocolate or heat cold cream or milk. Make sure you use the microwave or stove to heat anything you're about to pour into it BEFORE adding it to the fountain.

Here are the details for stores I have called:
Campbelltown - sold out of most items. Did have some cupcake makers and fondue fountains yesterday evening.
Minto - some cake pop, drink fountains, dessert makers and donut makers plus lots of Christmas food and pet gift lines.
    Casula - sold out
    Bankstown - sold out
Fairfield - sold out, but I am unsure about the staff member's response here.
    Burwood - sold out
    Eastgardens - sold out
    Broadway - sold out

Hope this saves a few phone calls for those people searching.

    • Thanks. It's bad and good news. ;)

    • Most of the time they don't check, they just put you on hold for a minute, talk to their friend next to them, unhold the call and say 'nah mate, we got none left, couldn't find sheet'

      • The last time I called they put me on hold until their phone line hanged up on me. =S

Lots of stock at K-mart Kurralta Park (SA) when I was there today.

I saw cupcake makers, cakepop makers, donut makers, drink fountains, fondues, dutch pancake makers, dessert makers and crepe makers

  • Apparently this was a Christmas special thats why there is nothing left.

  • Got one from Stanhope Gardens. Advertised for $6. Self checkout chick said it's actually $3 and adjusted the price for me
