A decent budget router with good Tomato support (max $80)

Long story short - Currently sharing home internet with a few housemates and traffic monitoring/traffic shaping are in need. It seems like Toastman Tomato is the way to go. It's built in QoS and network monitoring tools look great and hustle free.

Regarding the hardware these are what I need:

  • Dualband wireless N
  • AP mode (bridge mode)
  • USB port(s)
  • Ideally Gigabit LAN but not a must
  • low price tag (max budget is about $80 but cheaper the better)

As a reference I am using the WD N750 atm and it meets all my desires except for Tomato support. I've tried OpenWRT with the N750 and it's a bit overwhelming. It's a lot of work even adding USB support to it let alone traffic monitoring. I guess Tomato has everything I need out of the box.

Any feedback is welcome. Cheers!

    • Thanks Tony. That seems like a solid choice. I am also looking at the Linksys E3000.

      • you didnt like the mynet 750?

i have a 600 and its been fine once i ran it with openwrt

      • I like the N750 but don't really like OpenWRT. Way too many scripts to run.
