  • I haven't heard of this. Do all core processor laptops have this or is it practically non-existent?

    • Ivy bridge and up

      • Yes, the lag is horrible on anything under Intel HD4000 graphics, and even with HD4000 its bad enough to be useful for multimedia playback only.

  • WiDi is new(ish) (couple of years maybe). So no, not all. I tried to find out if there was a dongle for WiDi but the people I asked had never heard of one, but did say he thought there might be a card. My media player died so I was looking at alternatives.

I have WIDI on my old sony laptop, its 2.5 years old. Intel has been including this feature on many laptops, particularly those produced in last 12 months. TV manufacturers are just now starting to release products that incorporate the technology.

The easiest way to know if this will work for you is to search programs for WiDi as it will be pre-installed.

Generation 2+ i3/i5/i7 processors work, although your laptop needs to have intel processor + intel nic+ intel graphics card.

Better off getting a netgear ptv3000, as that works with widi and miracast.

Intel widi is a total bitch to get working.

    • Do they still call these centrinos?

      • No centrino wont work too old for widi

  • Something like this, or ChromeCast?

EDIT: Link is now showing me a router so maybe just ignore my question.

  • How is the quality and performance of the Cat6e cables?
I am running a Gigabit network.

    • There is no cat6e standard. Cat5e - yes which is just as good as cat6 in consumer applications.

I don't get how lan cables got into a widi product?

  • how does it compare to screencast av4?

    • Apples and oranges.

The Screencast AV4 is a way of reducing clutter from HDMI cables near your TV. Also great if your TV has limited HDMI inputs. Your Blu-ray player, PS3, XBox 360 can be tucked away (up to 30m away) in a cabinet connected to the transmitter part of the Screencast system. The receiver part is connected via HDMI cable to your display.

With the Belkin AUF7D4501 Screencast Widi - TV Adapter, you "cast" what's playing/showing on your Intel notebook with WiDi to your display.
