Advice on wedding dress

My friend and I went wedding dress shopping yesterday. She saw a dress that was labelled at $1000, we asked if there is any discount and the lady after a long time said the lowest price she could do was $770. So we paid a $200 deposit (transferrable) on the dress.

This morning, the shop made an announcement on Facebook saying that there is a 50% off all floor stock! Is there anything we can do about it? What should we do? What are our rights?

  • Worst case scenario you'll lose the deposit and just buy it half price (You'll save $70)

  • I agree with above comment, worst case scenario is just lose the deposit and buy it half price, better than going ahead with the original deal, but if you talk to the store, hopefully they can do something about it.

  • +2

Transfer the $200 to shoes, Bridesmaid dresses, accessories or other stock at sale prices. Re-buy your wedding dress half price too.

  • Also, is the dress your friend tried on in the store the correct size? Alterations on wedding dresses are expensive.

  • Thanks for all the advice!

  • Maybe I'm wrong but floor stock would likely be the dresses on the floor which people have been trying on all day and unless you're the exact size of that dress it'll be expensive to tailor it to your size.

My wife bought a dress in her size and the basic alterations were an additional $200.

  • it is 50% off marked price? or retail price?

also if its the one i see advertised
