$300 - $400 Home Theatre Sysyem

Is it possible to get a semi-decent home theatre system for $300-$400 mainly to boost my TV's crappy sound and listening to music from my mobile phone. For some reason I don't like the Samsung and LG systems that are going around for sub $400. They lool filmsy to me. Missed tge jb hifi $199 pioneer deal. The only other option I can see is the Yamaha YHT299B from HN for $367 http://m.harveynorman.com.au/yamaha-5-1-channel-home-theatreā€¦. Is that a good system for the price?

  • "boost my TV's crappy sound and listening to music from my mobile phone."

If that is your primary/only reason, go for a stereo setup and not 5.1 systems. Multi-speakers will be pointless as TV will be stereo and your phone will not give you multi-channel music.

    • Sorry for the noon question but what is a stereo set up and how its different than 5.1 systems?

  • +1

Anything is better than your tv's speaker.

If you aren't too fussed on having surround and just want something thats leaps and bounds better than your tv speakers maybe opt for a sound bar. I got the $99 philips one for the tv I use primarily use to watch free to air tv and the odd blurays and think it is great. Just don't go thinking that it will be equal to a proper set up and you won't be disappointed.
