The DSE website says it is a saving of $101. Not sure if these are great quality speakers but I can't seem to find them cheaper anywhere else online. They are $116 at MSY

Strictly speaking, good price, but you can get the X-530's when they go on special for ~$75. Keep an eye out on OW or Kmart.
Difference between the two is fairly minimal, mainly cosmetic (eg: X-540s have grills over speakers, separate power/volume control and adaptor for game consoles)
^^ as per above, i think it was JB i saw that sort of price.
:S I got mine about a year ago for the same price at Game Traders on special, I'd assumed they would be cheaper by now but maybe they don't come up with newer versions.
If you buy it for $167 from HN, then go grab the catalogue from DSE, HN will give you $75.90 back (their 110% guarantee), making it only $91.10.
Whether it's worth that trouble or not is questionable.
I don't think Officeworks stocks it, so you can't just get the 5% pricematch unfortunately.
-1 preety much always $99 or $98, i posted this ages ago and got -2.
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/8859Interesting, but let's face it, MSY have it for $117 now and HN have it for $167.
If you can provide a single example of it being cheaper or hell, within 10% somewhere else I'll retract my positive vote.
But bargain's don't look through the veil of time. I remember when a pack of Tic-Tacs was 35c, doesn't mean a 50c pack wouldn't be an incredible bargain now.
And I remember when Tic-Tacs hit the OZ market @ 20c,,, and it was an extravagance to spend that much on them!
Aye,, and you try and tell the young people of today that…

What a tool you are… giving me a neg just cos you got 1 when you posted it 157 days ago. When you posted it it was not a good deal as it was available for less at other stores like MSY…
ill stick by my neg, no a great deal champ. Maybe next time.
So… have you found it cheaper anywhere else?
Or within 10%?
gave you +1 to compensate for JPOWER's -ve :-)
Bought it for 99$ from Harvey Norman 18 months ago.
Not a bargain…at all.
Aussie dollar has changed since then boys and girls and children.
are these good speakers for $98? considering getting a set.
Let me put it this way, you could do much much worse for $98. A lot of my student friends have picked these up and are satisfied with the results.
Got one from DSE at about the same price last month.
Good quality, can't complain.yeah i got one of these over 2 years ago.
one thing i noticed with these speakers is that i cant turn off the sub!! (its quite basey)
On the budget speakers (eg: LS-21/R-20 or the X-230/X-240) there's a knob on the back of the sub that allows you to adjust the amount of base. Not sure if the X-530/540's have the same feature or not.
on the x540s, the "remote" has a bass knob. also you can disable the subs in some software (depends on your soundcard).
i just got a set today, not bad at all. i'm not an audiophile so i can't and definitely won't complain.
i just missed this deal (price got back to normal $199 two days ago).
can anyone keep an eye on Dick Smith's specials and let all us know once it is back.
ps i voted positive btw.Offer Over - now $199
I think they were about $149 a couple months back at JB.
That's a really good price though. I bought a 2.1 Logitech about 6 months ago, same type of speakers, and it was $89.
