[Safety Question] Pest Spray and Termite Inspection

I just had a pest spray done. No termites were found - the guy inspected every room thoroughly, climbed into the roof and under the floor and checked around the perimeter - fences, dead trees, etc.

There were three treatments:

  • injection of some chemical on door hinges of kitchen/vanity cabinets
  • spray of white powder in roof and underfloor
  • spray of liquid around floor perimeter and outside house.

How safe are these chemicals? E.g. The white powder can come down into the house through air vents. I've timed it so I'm visiting the folks for a few days.

Do I need to give bench tops a wipe and wash bed sheets afterwards? No five (X) second rule on food that fall on the floor, for how long?

They can't be too dangerous, otherwise it would be too hazardous to work as a pest technician, and they'd have poor health and short lifespans, right?

PS: were these appropriate treatments?

  • This having very little to do with bargains, I think you might be better off asking on Whirlpool. The folks there are used to answering questions of this nature.

  • I can answer it. Sounds like a standard treatment that we do every day. The gel in the cupboard hinges is very stable and won't hurt you. The dust in the roof is basically talc and has a very small amount of chemical and I doubt it would exit through wall vents. Any liquid used would not harm you and the only risk is usually to bird avaries and fish ponds. The only things at risk after this treatment are spiders, cockroaches and ants.
