Not available in other stores because you cant find any staff to serve you …. Frankly Myer is becoming un-believable waited over 40 minutes to get served. I stayed only that long because I was so pissed off I wanted to tell them how bad it was.

I was really tempted when I saw another customer pick up their goods and just walk out the door without paying. No one challenged them as there was no one around. Guess thats better than 35% off and there is no labour cost for Myer.

Wasted more time as really the sales staff really weren't to blame its the Myer board. Do they ever go out unannounced and try shopping in their stores themselves.

Is it just me - or do others find the same thing especially in regional stores??

If Myer paid to have enough staff to serve every customer, less people would be able to afford their products. And yet, there would be less whingy posts online about understaffing.

I see they've made their choice.

      • They've managed in the past. I agree that having too many staff increases prices, but you need a bare minimum. When people don't buy because they can't get assistance they make less sales and this too increases prices. I have noticed it has got drastically worse since Christmas.

        • Wicked - I agree over staffing is a big issue for retailers especially if they want to keep prices low, and I can wait like I do at Coles for some time, but in this case there was NO one around - in the section not serving others. So as MMan says its got dramatically worse. but agree they made their choice - lets hope their drop in sales isnt just blamed on the GFC as its part of their own making…

          • @[Deactivated]: yeah, the amount of people on some times is ridiculous, i agree.

    • "Is it just me - or do others find the same thing especially in regional stores??"

      The same thing.

I find the staff are actually very helpful - when you can get someone. They're will to spend a lot of time with you to help you with your purchase, once you find someone. This is even during non-sale periods.

Still, they have great variety, great prices (during stocktake sales) and have no qualms about change of mind returns.

Honestly though, I wouldn't wait 40 minutes unless I needed something desperately. I just walk out and come back later when it's (hopefully) less busy. I value my time a bit more than to wait around for someone to help me. It depends on where your store is, if it's in the mall you can go and find something else to do.

      • And when you return to find they have sold out of your item?

pete, just run upto manchester, there is usually a myer staff member hiding there folding towels that you can trap in the corner to buy something.

    • Actually, it's more so the store's management team that makes the decision on staffing. I used to work as a casual back when it was still called Grace Bros (and when they actually had a store in Carlingford). We (the staff) constantly asked for more people on the floor especially when they would have 1 "floater" for 2 departments or sometimes a floater to cover lunches for 4 departments (who didn't even know the product). Heck, imagine my surprise when I ended up working at Miss Shop! Ahh well.. At least there were some groups of hotties back then… There was one time where we had finished renovations, the first day of the stocktake sale was on, the doors opened late by 15 mins, a customer came up to me to pay for something and the wasn't any power to the cash register - imagine the abuse I got! So if you get pissed off, ask for a Team Leader.

Note: don't mention that management is doing a poor job during your exit interview just in case you get made redundant in the new job you had moved to trust me :P

    • So it sounds like if you want service and there are no staff to be seen then find the item you want and walk out the door. Worst case: If the alarm goes off, staff coming running and you get service straight away!

  • Seems like a good deal, can anyone recommend some good value knifes that Myer sells? I don't need chef grade just some decent ones for a home ametuer.

    • I know the good knives are good… but even average knives can be good if you just learn to keep them sharp. Makes all the difference.

P.S. I had the global millenium set and liked it a lot.

    • daveaus, global is awesome but a bit pricey.. if you want cheap good brand knives head down to victoria's basement in auburn sydney, they had a sale on when I went last time on knife sets.

as antman76 says, even average knives can b good as long as you keep them sharp, so even a set of wiltshire staysharps (which also come with a sharpening tool from memory) should do the job..

  • Already started, yes today!

  • hi…does anyone think these are expeciialy good deals?? Am moving into a new house next month and need new stuff like pots and pans, coffee machine and vaccuum cleaner….shoudl i wait for stock take sales or just get everything now? Thanks

    • The deals are pretty good, not the best but decent enough, especially when considering this is a department store where you can buy everything under one roof. It's unlikely the stock take sale can be significantly better, this is like a pre-stock take sale meaning you get more choices. Stock will be limited if you wait for next month.

  • Are staff able to get their normal discount on top of this? I have a friend who works at Myer and since I want to get a plasma they are 15% off and she gets 10% discount for staff. I will take her along if she can get it! :)

  • Just got home from the Myer sale. Really great deals! All coats were 50% off and all quilts and sheets 40% off, 35% off all books…would have bought more if I could carry more:)I think this sale is better than the stocktake sales as they often bulk buy cheap stuff and try to pass it off
as being on special during stocktake sales, but these one day sales are genuine.
