    • How does this compare to the SONY CyberShot HX50V $302.40 delivered?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128682

Same sensor size, GPS, WIFI, 30x zoom

      • I can confirm that day time photos are better with the HX50V at all zoom levels. With regards to indoor photos, the TZ40 is better.

However, the HX50V has trouble focusing indoors with flash and the indoor shots just look horrible full stop.

        Outdoors: http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Sony_Cyber-shot_HX50V/outd…
        Indoors: http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Sony_Cyber-shot_HX50V/nois…

My pick if you are willing to shell out double the money, look at the difference:
        RX100 Indoors: http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Sony_Cyber-shot_DSC_RX100/…

When comparing the indoor shots, note that the HX50V will pick 800ISO as it's go to ISO where as the RX100 tends to pick 400ISO. So you should compare those two and that's the difference it will make when you are looking at someone's face in your photo. I was hesitant as I could buy two HX50V's for the price of one RX100 but it is well worth the money because the shot is just too horrible.

Three viable choices at the moment:
        Cheap: Canon SX280
        Medium-Expensive: Lumix LX7
        Expensive: RX100

Also the RX100 is more pocketable (22% less bulk) than the HX50V and feels more solid rather than bits of plastic stitched together.

        • Agree with your comments above, however as a travel camera the TZ40 has the advantage of much greater zoom capability.

        • +1

Avoid the Canon SX280, it has a major defect with battery life and video recording, there is a large thread on the Canon forums.

        • as above.. avoid canon sx280

  • really good price for a quality camera!

  • How does this compare to the Canon SX280 HS and Nikon s9500?

    @Jlove

    SX280 vs TZ40

    S9500 VS tz40

I will go with TZ40 and Made in Japan as well.

  • Had mine 8 months. Love it, great camera. Good for 1080 50p video to.
