Sydney New Year’s Eve, choose your perfect location to watch the fireworks

Wondering if you guys can recommend good spots to view fireworks with family ( and which does not have entry fees). Is 5 - 6pm good to get the seats (space) at these free spots?
Living in the area and having seen the streams of people going back and forth, my suggestion would be to get there from midday onwards; take a packed lunch and as much non-alcoholic drink as possible. 5-6pm will most likely see you struggling to get in anywhere (they close access to areas as they get full) let alone finding a seat to wait out the next 6-7 hours till they go off; it's also note that the 9pm and 10.30pm fireworks are not nearly half as good as the 12am ones. There are toilets available at most sites.

bradfield park is my choice:
it's a big enough area. i was there for the fleet review earlier this year at got some decent views. earlier the better i'd say - people will be camping at some spots from the morning.
