Need some technical advice for home theatre speakers

I have a set of Sony home theatre speakers. I dont have its main unit though. What do i need to get them started? Do I need an amplifier? Its a set of 4 speakers and a woofer.

Can i buy just a main unit from anywhere (I know that would be hard). what is the easiest alternative to that?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thank you

  • You should be able to connect the wires into the back of any system but as you said it would be nearly impossible to get just the system. There are great home theatre systems out there for under $350 though.

    • Yup I totally agree… but I want to make use of those speakers. They are like brand new. So why to spend $350 for a home system (Ozb thinking) :D

  • +1

If you go the amplifier route the subwoofer will be useless (im assuming its a passive subwoofer with speaker wires, rather than an active subwoofer with a power cord and RCA plug connection)
If you go the new home-theatre-in-a-box route then you will be getting speakers anyway (though the ones you have may be better, but the unit may not be sufficient to drive them)
