Trans-Pacific Partnership secretly trading away consumer rights

I have been following this topic for quite a while now but Choice Magazine just released a recent article that explains how consumer rights are being undermined to suit the USA agenda to most likely the key benefits from any trade deal for Australia as usual primarily flowing through to our farmers - beef etc. The whole fact that the TPP has been done in secret should be a worry to us all. They have a petition that can be signed to demonstrate our concerns about this deal. I hope ozbargainers might get on board.

The Patent and Copyright issues are pretty significant too. It is so nice that such partnership agreements drive the US corporate dollar further by effectively manipulating laws and trade behaviour in other countries to benefit US organisations. It is not really harmonisation, it is more like the rest of the world has to change to become another US state.

  • The fear of missing out on a regional agreement must be driving everyone to act like lemmings and jump over the cliff. Tony Abbott has staked his reputation on free trade agreements so I can't see him turning down an agreement, no matter how bad it is.

  • Recently Turnbull's got a bill through to allow government to step in to force ISPs to filter content based on corporate interests. The government should never be involved in things like this, much less filtering the internet. We're no worst than non-democratic states.
