Looking for a silent wall clock under $50

I have this clock that's driving me insane sometimes at night when I'm trying to sleep. Please help!

Preferably analog.

I know the feeling - ticking clocks are the bane of my life!

    I recommend a 100% silent, LCD digital: http://www.dicksmith.com.au/home-appliances/digital-wall-clo…

There's no moving parts, no noise and no lights to disturb your rest.

First world problem, first world solution. LCD is the way to go.

    • If you don't need the weather, eBay is your friend.

It does have temperature, and contrary to the description, it is not a drain-away mat.

Before you fork out for a new clock, try simply placing a thin piece of polystyrene (or a folded bit of cardboard or similar) between the clock and the wall. You'll find the majority of the noise will disappear.

  • I had a really loud clock I loved so I replaced the movement with a continuous sweep one from here:http://www.letsmaketime.com.au/shop/category/-continuous-sweep much less than $50 even after buying new hands and delivery.
If you put the clock right up to your ear you can hear it but at any normal wall clock to head distance it's effectively silent.

  • Make sure the clock doesn't have a second hand. That's what makes the noise. Without the mechanism for the second hand, the clock does not tick.

  • Geewhizz is right, the wall may be acting like a sounding board, amplifying the sound; just placing something soft between the clock and the wall should reduce the noise.
