40

Hi everyone merry Xmas and happy boxing day, after searching about different home theater I closed down to Yamaha. Receiver 475 RXV as this has airplay and lots of other features this alone is about $700 now it's on sale for $399 and if you get yht399 package its about $599, so that's good deal. Heaps of other deals and specials on Rio I just ordered one.

Sorry for the bad English or grammar as English is not my first language

  • You need a wifi dongle to play airplay with the yamaha receivers unless you buy Aventage series which comes free. Wouldn't bother with the yamaha ywa 10 for $149. Save yourself some money and just get a wifi powerline adapter for 1/3 of the price plus better connection.

heads up yamaha rx-v775 at $799 is an amazing price

    • Or you could plug it into Ethernet, if available

  • I was going to spend $197 and get the 5.1 HT Pioneer system from JB, but thought about internet radio, and now I see this sale, when many similar systems are more expensive.

Bang for buck, which would be better as entry level, and how trusted is RIO?

    • The Pioneer $197 is a good deal and probably all you need. Otherwise Rio is a retailed yamaha dealer and are reliable. You need to factor in how much can you stretch your budget Pax and how big is your room if you're thinking of upgrading from the pioneer deal

    • Yep - Rio are great to deal with.

  • Hi odc1984,

Thanks for quick reply. The tv is in the corner of an L shape room, and lounge and back wall are 3m from TV.

I have nothing but TV right now, but I have a second room which the TV might move to and is 4m x 4m.

The airplay/internet radio appealed, but the other option of mobile phone (android) with usb plunged into the Pioneer was the alternative, as long as phone doesn't ring.

I have to cable in for fetch tv already so an extra point wouldn't kill me.

I was thinking of mounting rear speakers close to ceiling pointed down@lounge, but happy to take pointers.

WD TV Live is used to stream also, and no bluray or DVD as yet.

    • Looks like you need a few hdmi out on the receiver for all those devices plus future proofing bluray player etc. For >$200 don't think you can do better than the pioneer deal but having said that it sounds like you're looking for something with decent sounding entry level system. My parents recently purchased a canton movie 130 with pioneer vsx 522 (no wifi though) receiver and after 1 month break in and watching Avengers it sounds amazing. Sub is not going to rattle your lounge suite but is enough and very balanced.

rrp for canton movie 130 is over $1200 alone with 5 year warranty

All up $798 if you're from and around Kew. I'd probably just ask for the canton movie 130 5.1 alone and upgrade the receiver of your choice. I'm a Yamaha fan but personal choice really. Check out the Sony 840 a few items below this listing on ozbargain is a great price.

Trev is the store owner in Kew and he's a bit of a nutter. Funny bloke but he will give you a great deal if you ask politely. Otherwise the mirage 5.1 in the rio page is also worth considering according to reviews. I've personally haven't heard them. Hope it help

      • Definitely opens my eyes, & makes you consider how you want the setup to be, & system to sound.

I'll take a better look tomorrow when not on my mobile.

Thanks for taking the effort to reply.

  • Forgot to mention that the cantons come with free adjustable moving mounts. Otherwise selby currently have 15% store wide with free delivery.
*Correction Pax, parents have the Canton movie 160 series but sure 130 isn't far off in terms of sound quality.

  • I've been looking out for this. Looks like a good price. Saw a stack of Pioneer VSX-528-K receivers for $349 (or maybe they were $368) at Chadstone JB Hi Fi today, but I'd prefer this bundle. Alas, I'm saving for a vacation next month and can't splurge on a home theatre system now. :-(

I think the rx-475 is rated at 0.09% THD vs the Pioneer VSX-528 at 0.9 % THD. But both look like good value.
